Established in June 2012, the Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR) is one of the most robust military medicine research programs in the country.
Ron Poropatich, MD received the Pitt Distinguished Alumni award from Adam Leibovich Bettye J. and Ralph E. Bailey Dean Kenneth P. Deitrich School of Arts and Sciences and College of General Studies at the University of Pittsburgh on 20 SEP 2024
Dr. Tkachenko, from Ukraine, is visiting the University of Pittsburgh, Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR). Dr. Viktoriia Tkachenko, MD, PhD, Dr Sci in Med, is a Professor in the Department of Family and Internal Medicine at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine (Kyiv). She is a general practitioner, a trainer and teacher for general practitioners, as well as a researcher. Mental health in primary care is her field of research interest. Mental disorders became the hot problem in Ukraine due to war and concomitant stress factors and she hopes to learn our innovative approaches and work towards a future fruitful cooperation. University of Pittsburgh students complete summer internship at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. On 9 August 2024, they presented their research during a poster session to mentors, scientists and staff assigned to the USUHS. The Pitt Center for Military Medicine Research provided research stipends for three Pitt Students (Michael Belen, Taylor Mathis, Marc Melanson) and Matthew Lettieri and Cesar Guerra-Solano were sponsored through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellowship Program.
Pitt student Joaquin Torres was also an active researcher as he served as a USUHS funded advisor and contributed to several poster presentations.
Lily K. Lovera, Captain, United States Army and Joseph M. Karslo, Captain, United States Army representing the Army Recruiting Command during the Student Organization Fair, sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, School of Medicine held today, during Freshman Orientation 31 July 2024 in Scaife Hall. The Center for Military Medicine Research (CMMR) was proud to join with them as they explained the benefits of the US Army’s generous and comprehensive scholarships available in healthcare today. Many of the students seemed interested in exploring the Health Professions Scholarship (HPSP), which provides benefits while students are in school and benefits after graduation.

Military Health 2024 has it Call for Abstracts portal now open and available for investigators to submit their abstracts to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)'s premier scientific research meeting. The portal opened on January 8 2024 and closes on February 21, 2024. Abstracts WILL NOT be accepted after February 21st, so please plan accordingly and get them in!

Center for Military Medicine Research Director, Dr. Ron Poropatich visited Warsaw, Poland on October 22-28, 2023, and participated in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)-funded “Casualty Care Assessment of Russo-Ukraine War” meeting focused on Rehabilitation led by Colonel (Ret.) Paul Pasquina, MD, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Uniformed Services University.
Dr. Poropatich gave a talk titled – “The Potential of Tele-rehabilitation and Artificial Intelligence into Rehabilitative Care.”
