Mercado De Vida, a free food market, is an amazing food justice project! It serves 350 to 400 families per month and up to 1250 people when including all household members!

Would you like to volunteer with us Thursdays?

Thursday is one of our busiest days as that’s usually the day we go to Chicopee to pick up a truckload of food. Nicole volunteers with Matthew Brinton that day but they are moving over to steward Madre Jardin (behind Zion Church) between the hours of 3:30 and 8:00.

If you love people and would like to fill in Thursdays from 3-6:00, email [email protected]. A sweet friend Janice who comes to the market is filling in but it’s always better to have two people there together for support! They’re are a few other hours on other days to volunteer if Thursdays does not work for you!

*** Of course - All are welcome to Madre Jardin, the community garden, to directly grow and harvest produce any time! Many members will be attending Thursdays 3:30 - 8:00! Meet us there!

O.U.R Resurge

We will miss you Chris Hairston. ❤️Thank you to friends who came out yesterday to honor Chris’s life.

Stef Quetti had a beautiful vision to plant a sunflower in Chris’s name at Madre Jardin, the very garden he started at 16 years ago only age 19 (Formerly it was further down on Fenn St).

The sunflower perfectly describes Chris’s kindred spirit, joyful hearty laugh, creative muse, and musical prodigy.

Even at age 19, his heart was so big! He taught the younger kids his exquisite skill of drumming at Madre Jardin and continued to do so for years to come.

At age 35, a murder victim, we lost him much too soon. We are reminded of the ways he suffered structural injustice, often having no place to lay his head His head - no home to heal, stabilize and recover. In remembering him, we must continue to work towards housing justice.

We will be at Madre Jardin (Behind Zion Church) every Thursday from 3.30 and into the evening. At 5:30 every Thursday, we will continue working on a large community mural that includes an honorarium to Chris, if you would like to join us!

We are also adding him into a community mural we’re creating together. We welcome you to join us!

The community garden is right behind Zion Church at The Common Park! Chris started working with Manos Unidas Multicultural Educational Cooperative when he was just 19, teaching drums at the original Madre Jardin further down on Fenn St.

This sunflower embodies Chris’s kindred spirit, hearty laugh, and creative muse. We miss you Chris! ❤️🌈🙏

Kamani, Chloe, and Hely were missing from yesterday’s meeting so I inserted some photos from their previous Tuesday meeting.

There remains $4000 in industrial cleaning and supplier charges to be paid before re-opening but we hope to remedy that within the next two weeks through a T-shirt fundraising and a small member loan! We’ll release a Mailchimp and separate post for that but here’s the link!!

Gustitos Boricuas is cooking the meal!

We will be taking an 8 week summer break in our Sunday co-op academy classes to focus on our community garden, Madre Jardin and Corazonidos Community School summer program but will be working with four of our groups to complete state incorporation to access state and federal contracts increasing revenue.

Congratulations to you all!! Each of your co-ops have made incredible progress!

We will discuss payments for this sessions final stipends tonight as our new payroll can directly deposit those in your accounts which helps our accountant! Stipends re-start in September, when the co-op sessions start again!

Español Febajo! Yesterday the artist co-op primes and prepares the mural for the July 5th’ community mural making event- Pittsfield Without Addiction! It is held on First Friday Art Walk at O.U.R Resurge! All are welcome - flyer is in photos!

They are mapping out the general outline for it using themselves as models, some of whom have battled and overcome addiction! They will continue working on it next Thursday at their weekly 1:1 co-op session.

Español Debajo! La Cocineras Latinas, featured here, is a developing producer catering co-op, that is consistently working together twice weekly to reach their goals!

Over the past several months, lead co-op business developers, Michael, MariaElisa, and Lillian have worked alongside the group to support them create individual menus for catering, restaurant, and prepared foods while gaining practicum in producer co-op goals including how to co- share purchasing, expenses, space, and revenue/staffing.

Nicole, who supports groups in accessing capital needs, applied to multiple state and foundation grants to support renovations and commercial kitchen equipment needs for 129 Fenn St. an absolute necessity for this group. The group will be supported in completing the People’s Self Development Grant over the summer which funds stipends for the concrete organizing work this group is doing!

English below! Qué gracia, amabilidad y valentía nos mostraron estas 12 mujeres al compartir momentos tan íntimos de su vida como parte de su producción de cuentos colectivos bilingües. El arte de contar historias es tan poderoso que puede derribar barreras y abrir caminos hacia la curación.

Jean Minuchin, fundadora de World & Eye, dirigió el proyecto con el apoyo de MA Cultural Council y Pittsfield Cultural Council.

What grace, kindness and courage these 12 ladies showed us in sharing such intimate life moments as apart of their bi-lingual collective storytelling production. The art of storytelling is so powerful - it can break down barriers and provide paths towards healing.
