Civitan Club of the Berkshires
The Civitan Club of the Berkshires is a service club founded in 1957. Our members focus on community
Civitan Club volunteers make a difference in helping our community be a better place to live by partnering with other local organizations. We volunteer at local events such as the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up program, Feed My Sheep dinners, the Christian Center Community Celebration Day, Special Olympics events, Salvation Army Bell Ringing. We also provide a Christmas Eve meal to the elderly and shut-ins each December.

Currently, we are holding a membership drive and are actively seeking new members. Club members meet once a month for dinner, provide Christmas meals to the elderly, hold food drives, raise funds for food pantries and meal programs, and assist people with disabilities. No one in today’s world has enough time to do every activity, so individual members choose what they’d like to do and the amount of time they want to give.

Is there help on the horizon for people with Down Syndrome through a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease? Civitan International Research Center Director Dr. Craig Powell has demonstrated that drugs showing promise for Alzheimer’s may also help in patients with Down Syndrome. In the future, this drug may be tested to see if the treatment can prevent the worsening of brain function in adults with the disorder or whether it could actually improve brain function in children challenged by it.
