“If you’ve shared a hot plate of empanadas with a friend at La Fogata, or come across spoken word and music at Kellogg Park … if you’re walking up North Street in the sun and stop to look at the warm colors in a photo mural … if you’re listening to Whiskey Treaty Roadshow playing roots music live at Bousquet’s Mountain Day, then you’re encountering Mill Town.”

Ever wonder what we mean when we say things like “tangible” impact? It’s just this – shared experiences throughout the community; events and initiatives that fuel connection; celebrations of art, culture, and the outdoors; meaningful moments that enrich our daily lives both personally and professionally. It’s about making the Berkshires a place we are all proud to call home.

Thank you, BTW Berkshires, for the detailed insight into some of our efforts. Read the full article here: https://btwberkshires.com/arts/music/milltown-music/

Our team is honored to have received the 2024 Downtown Pittsfield Community Award, celebrated at the Berkshire Museum last Thursday night alongside an inspiring group of community members, business leaders, and public servants. This recognition speaks to the very heart of our mission and the tangible impact we strive to make every day, but we couldn’t do it alone. As our Program Manager, Andy Wrba, emphasized in accepting the award: “a community thrives on the strength of its collaborations” – which is to say we share this applause with many.

Thank you, DPI and all involved, for hosting such a great event!

Many thanks to all at BCC and 1Berkshire for hosting another great 40 Under Forty event, and congrats again to this year’s honorees – well-deserved! Our charitable partner, Mill Town Foundation, was proud to provide each award winner $1,000 to re-grant to a Berkshire-based nonprofit of their choice as an opportunity to further their impact.

In the words of our Founder & Chairman, Dave Mixer: “We are proud to empower the 40 Under Forty recipients with the ability to support their community. When young people experience the value of philanthropy first-hand, it becomes an important part of their lives, and they pass it on to future generations. This cycle is critical to the well-being and sustainability of a healthy community.”

Here’s to giving, to community, and to our bright future together in the Berkshires!

At this year’s TEDx Berkshires event, hosted by the center, speaker Burr Purnell spoke about the power of purpose, community, and living on the edge. Brimming with curiosity and unafraid to fail, Burr has walked a daring and venturesome path over the years, from the time he quit his job to embark on a 282-day service trip to now serving as the Executive Director of Social Good at VidMob Gives, a 501(c)3 organization.

His spirited words about leaving it all “on the field of life” offer a profound inspirational message for both individuals and groups. For our team at Mill Town, it points us right back to our mission: improving quality of life and enhancing opportunities throughout the region. Ambitious as it may be, we inch closer with every project, and remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible throughout our community here in the Berkshires.

When our Founder Dave Mixer was asked by Berkshire Landscapes Magazine, “Of all your projects and investments, what are you most pleased with and proud of?”, Dave responded “I’m most pleased and proud of the organization we’ve built, the people of Mill Town.”  This sentiment makes up the foundation of our team’s culture, camaraderie, and mission within the community.

… which is why we are thrilled to celebrate our Design Director Emily Gabriel’s decision to pursue a lifelong dream: founding her own creative services agency. The newly formed Nova Studios will offer graphic design + branding, product design, and interior/exterior design throughout the Berkshires and surrounding areas.

Though a soon-to-be “alum” of our team, we will forever appreciate Emily’s countless contributions to Mill Town. Since joining our team in August of 2020, she has been instrumental in creating many of the spaces and brands that we work so closely with today. From the Bousquet lodge to the redesign of Gateways, to our logos and websites, our fantastic office space and so many projects in between, Emily has had her hands in all of it, providing top tier design services while also doing much of the heavy lifting herself. She’s been a tremendous asset to our team and mission and we are excited for her future while planning to collaborate on various projects together.

Please join us in congratulating Emily Gabriel, CEO & Founder of the Berkshires’ newest creative agency: Nova Studios!

If you or anyone you know is looking for help with your next design project, visit novastudios.us for more info or reach Emily directly at [email protected]

Many thanks to Mikaela Shiffrin for the generosity of time, knowledge, and inspiration she shared with the campers at Camp Arrow Wood (a Mill Town property) this past Friday. It was a true honor having her on-site, and we are incredibly grateful for the lasting impression this visit will have on the camp’s aspiring athletes – both in sports and in life.

Thank you, Mikaela, and best of luck in your nomination for Best Athlete, Women’s Sports and Best Record-Breaking Performance at the ESPYS this Wednesday – we are all rooting for you!

🔁 Repost :

I got to visit Camp Arrow Wood this past weekend while out east in the Berkshires with family. I’m so honored to join their team as an ambassador for youth sports!!

What struck our family most about this camp is that it’s a sports camp with an emphasis on core values and the development of good humans. My parents raised my brother and me largely in sports culture, so Camp Arrow Wood’s mission and mantras resonate deeply with us.

“Where sports and spirit unite.” They work to empower boys and girls not only to explore their given passions, but also to experience new interests and the less familiar. Their mission is inspired by and written by their campers, their mantras are:

•Motivate, don't mandate
•Competition with compassion
•Give camp back to the kids
•Always keep it real

I had a blast meeting with and chatting with campers, and Aleks and my mom did too. Thank you all for the warm welcome…already looking forward to our next visit. Love what you guys are doing to make a difference in the life of youth, and I’m so happy to be a small part of it. 🙏

With 16 Mill Town employees and over 200 total employees across our portfolio, the Mill Town community spans multiple businesses, industries, and organizations. Individually, each of us plays a unique role in the success of day-to-day operations, but collectively, we are one team with a diverse set of skills, perspectives, and expertise working together towards the same goal: improving quality of life and opportunity in the Berkshires.

Though we are spread across Berkshire County, this past month we came together for our annual "All Hands" Meeting, held at Bousquet Mountain. Sharing updates on various projects, cross-pollinating thoughts and ideas, and enjoying time with one another allowed us to celebrate our achievements to date while looking ahead to an even bigger and brighter future.

Walking away inspired by our shared efforts, we couldn't be more excited for what's still to come throughout our beloved local community.

In a recent article published by the Boston Globe, author Noah Lederman detailed his return visit to Pittsfield and what led him back to the area, explaining “I’d heard that the city was experiencing a rebirth and drove in to see it for myself.”

Taking his curiosity to Bousquet where he and his kids could enjoy a day on the slopes, he quickly found the rumors to be true: “In recent years, the ski resort had nearly shut down operations for good. But a local investment company, Mill Town Capital, had swooped in to purchase and save Bousquet – as well as a number of historic buildings in town – breathing new life into Pittsfield’s backyard ski mountain.”

Noah goes on to highlight a handful of local gems and downtown attractions – Dottie's Coffee Lounge, District Kitchen & Bar, Trattoria Rustica, Hot Plate Brewing Co., Tanglewood Music Festival, MASS MoCA, Norman Rockwell Museum, Hancock Shaker Village, Barrington Stage Company, Hotel on North – all with positive reviews.

It is always gratifying to hear stories like this one as they speak directly to the heart of our mission and the strong sense of community that makes Pittsfield and the Berkshires so special.

Founded in 2010, Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll) is an organization whose mission is to accelerate "economic and social impact in communities nationwide through inclusive entrepreneurship." Their business accelerator and pitch contest programs offer aspiring entrepreneurs training, education, mentorship, and networking opportunities that help turn ideas into realities and dreams into businesses.

In 2019, EforAll was launched in Berkshire County — a new chapter we were proud to serve on the initial steering committee for. Fast forward to earlier this month, and the Berkshire Innovation Center was hosting a gala for EforAll’s 2022 Fall Accelerator Program graduates, made up of 19 individuals representing 13 businesses. The event featured special remarks, tables showcasing EforAll alumni's businesses, and seed capital awards — a well-deserved celebration of the graduates' efforts, and one that we were pleased to support.

Congrats to all, our team at Mill Town wishes you nothing but continued success going forward!

🔁 Repost :

"On one of my recent trips back 'home' to the Berkshires in MA, I had the opportunity for a tour of the improvements being made by Mill Town Capital at some of the the local sports venues.

Bousquet Ski area, one of the most family friendly ski areas I know of, has been renovated with a new lodge including an amazing bright and chic but affordable bar and restaurant overlooking the ski trails. The new snowmaking at Bousquet can lay down the most amazing surface in the blink of an eye; great for beginners on up.

Bousquet Sport club is being completely updated and expanded. It will be offering tons of tennis and pickle, indoor and out as well as an awesome fitness area, eventually swimming, and a bar overlooking the tennis courts for people to hang out. They are doing a great job of working around the construction though so go in for some tennis or workout and check it out.

But one of the most unexpected surprises was my tour of the summer camp- Camp Arrow Wood. Breathtaking setting, all refurbished and freshly painted buildings, on gorgeous Richmond Pond. With tons of sports options, The fields and courts are all newly surfaced. The buildings have somehow retained that special camp character with old wood floors and stone hearths. But what got my attention was that its a sports camp with an emphasis on “core values” and “the development of good humans”. Having grown up in and raised two kids largely in a sports culture, the mission and mantras of Arrow Wood struck a chord with me.

Many of us still find ourselves struggling mentally, physically and emotionally after the recent years of covid trauma. We have not had much to cheer about but after visiting these places in the Berkshires, I think we finally have something to cheer about. Thank you Mill Town Capital for providing more opportunities for health, wellness and sports in the Berkshires."

Thank you for the kind words, Eileen — we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your trip back to the Berkshires and were able to visit a few of our properties!

In a recent interview with Berkshire Landscapes magazine, our Founder and Chairman, Dave Mixer, had an opportunity to share his vision for Mill Town and why he "believes in the Berkshires." With an emphasis on community and sustainability, Dave speaks to our core projects, local investments, regional impact, overall mission, and much more as he answers questions like:

• What brought you back to Pittsfield 50 years after leaving and what were the goals you had in mind?
• How has your vision evolved, based on six years of experience here and the unexpected impact of COVID?
• Of all your projects and investments, what are you most pleased with and proud of?

While it's been a momentous six years to date, Dave insists that "we're just scratching the surface" and – for those sports-minded like himself – "only in the top of the second inning" at Mill Town. His humble leadership inspires an innovative and spirited culture among our team of over 200 employees daily, and we couldn't be more excited for the collective future of our community.
