CET: Resilient Climate Solutions
CET envisions a world that has embraced and advanced just and resilient climate solutions.
We tabled at two great events this past week: The Mass Black Expo and the Mass Facilities Administrators Association Conference! It is always great to meet local businesses and organizations to talk about reducing food waste and diverting valuable and reusable materials ♻️
Clinic: Alternative Medicines was able to save over 50 lifetime tons of carbon just by having their pipes wrapped. That's like planting 2,000 trees!
We stopped by to talk to them about their experience working with CET and are pleased to share our interview with Jen here.

CET is excited to be tabling and also representing RecyclingWorks MA at the Mass Black Expo tomorrow and Saturday. We are looking forward to connecting the businesses we meet with resilient climate solutions.
"The Mass Black Expo is Black Economic Council of Massachusetts’s signature event, the premier annual showcase in the Commonwealth for Black businesses, organizations, and allies committed to building Black wealth through impact, access, and equity."
Located in Warren, Rhode Island, Hope & Main is a nonprofit culinary incubator dedicated to transforming the local food economy. It supports small food businesses by offering certified, affordable shared-use commercial kitchens and a maker’s market, fostering an environment where food entrepreneurs can thrive.
CET staff conducted a waste assessment at Hope & Main Downtown Makers Marketplace and Cafe in Providence, identifying several strategies for enhanced waste reduction: initiating a food scrap diversion program starting with back-of-house operations and expanding to front-of-house, adding waste bin signage, providing additional staff training; and improving mixed recycling programs. Hope & Main Downtown Makers Marketplace is leading the implementation of these CET recommendations to enhance its waste reduction efforts.

Several organizations are collaborating to deliver the projects and CET's role will be to help larger institutions in the city that have wasted food including schools, to find practical solutions to prevent, donate and compost.

Meet Douglas Thayer, a small business owner doing construction, renovation, and carpentry in Florence, MA. We worked with him on several energy efficiency projects at his workshop, ranging from blown insulation in the attic to LED bulbs and weatherstripping the doors. These measures have a calculated impact of saving 150 lifetime tons of Carbon, which is the equivalent to planting over 5000 trees!
We are doing this business spotlight series to bring awareness to the work we do every day to help small businesses save energy and money. Curious just what that process looked like for Douglas? You'll have to watch the video to find out. Curious what this process could look like for you and your business? Give us a message on socials or contact us through our website!
Thank you to Douglas for letting us stop by and for talking with us about his experience with CET.

Here are the first three steps to address your wasted food.
1️⃣ Food Waste Reduction – While not required under the law, reducing wasted food holds numerous benefits for businesses and the environment. We are here to help businesses to understand common sources of food waste and recognize the impacts on their business, and to serve as a starting point to quantify and reduce this waste. Implementing a food waste prevention program can save resources, labor, purchasing expenses, and waste-hauling costs.
2️⃣ Food Donation – We must address the connection between wholesome, edible food that is thrown away and the 2.2 million New Yorkers who are food insecure. Donating uneaten, wholesome food to local food relief organizations can help serve those in need and reduce the amount of waste produced by businesses. There are numerous resources and tools available to businesses wishing to donate. We will outline these tools and answer common questions about donation, including liability, tax benefits, food safety, and best practices for implementing an effective and safe donation program.
3️⃣ Food Scraps Recycling – After a business has donated their edible food to the maximum extent practicable, the material remaining still has valuable organic matter and nutrients, and those materials can be recycled into products that benefit our soils. Additionally, excess food that may not meet the standards for human consumption through donation may be diverted for animal feed. We will help guide you toward implementing a food scraps recycling program, including assessing existing waste practices, separating and storing food waste, and transporting and recycling these materials.
🌱 At CET, we're here to help your business understand how to reduce waste, donate responsibly, and recycle effectively. Ready to make a change, but don't know where to start? We are here to help!
