You’re ruining your extensions on vacation and here’s why 😱

✨You got your hair extensions fully wet in the pool and/or ocean causing them to tangle more and dry out faster

I recommend rinsing your hair and applying a leave in conditioner as well as tying it up so it doesn’t touch the water. (Don’t forget that the chlorine can turn your bright blonde extensions green)

✨You didn’t detangle your hair extensions and put it back for water activities

I’ve had clients come in with huge tangles that took me 30 minutes to get out because they were on a boat all day and didn’t secure their hair back.

I always recommend detangling your hair, and either braiding it, or putting it in a bun to help reduce tangling when going out on the water

💕Bonus tip: use a mineral based sunscreen, because other sunscreens can tint your hair extensions.

What does every extension girl need? 🥂

✨Extension double bristle brush- these are amazing for detangling without pulling on your extensions. It usually consists of boar bristles and thin plastic bristles.

✨Silk pillowcase/ silk sleeping cap- you can use satin as well. These are essential for reducing tangling while you sleep and preserving your hairstyle overnight.

✨Salon grade shampoo+conditioner- this is a must for preserving your extension hair. Especially if you want to be able to reuse your hair for up to a year.

I could go on and on, but these are definitely top three 🙌🏻 and something I’d also recommend for all of my girls that don’t have extensions💕

Make your hair shinier with these easy tips 👇🏼

✨Rinse your hair with cold water- hot showers are ok just do a cold rinse at the end, it helps seal your hair’s cuticle which makes it shinier

✨Air dry or do more heat less styles- heat opens your hair’s cuticle which makes it look dull over time and creates heat damage.

✨Dry your hair on cool- after you blowdry a section of your hair switch to the cold button
and go over it. This helps close your hair’s cuticle and adds shine

✨Get a conditioning treatment- by conditioning your hair you automatically enhance the shine. My favorite treatment right now is the lavish mask treatment (available at Arlow salon)

How do you add dimension to dark hair while keeping it low maintenance?

✨I always feel like adding a few accents of a lighter shade is all you need to create dimension.

By doing this, you add interest to your hair while keeping it low maintenance.

For this client, we did a mini light service to add those accents of blonde.

The best part is she can continue to touch up her roots without having to get a mini light service every single time. ✨

What is the difference between salon grade products, and what you find in the convenience store?

Products like your shampoo leave behind ingredients in your hair…

I compare it to the food you put in your body. If you’re eating healthier high-quality foods from Whole Foods you’re gonna feel a lot better than if you were eating low quality food from McDonald’s.

It’s the same for your hair.

✨This is why the quality of your hair products matter. By leaving behind good ingredients it will make your hair style easier, last longer, and help keep your color from fading.

Are you brushing your extensions the right way?

I’ve seen extension girls ruin their extensions and hair by brushing at the scalp and working down to the ends. This method makes it harder to detangle the hair and puts so much stress where the extensions are attached to the head.

✨I always recommend my extension girls to put one hand where their extensions are attached to their head while the other hand brushes the hair working from the bottom up.

This puts less tension on the extensions, helps them last longer, and reduces any damage being done to your own hair.

This not only hydrates your extensions, but also makes them shinier ✨

Did you know these tips for nighttime extension care?

🫶🏼Brush the hair starting at the bottom and working your way up. This puts less stress on the hair and helps to easily detangle.

🫶🏼Apply a night serum or a moisturizing cream/oil. Hydrating your extensions while you sleep is the easiest way to maintain shiny moisturized hair.

🫶🏼Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. Other fabrics can rough up the hair while you’re sleeping. Silk/satin helps to keep the hair free of tangles+matting , it also helps to hold your hairstyle longer.

The best part about these tips is you can utilize them whether you have extensions or not. So give them a try 💕

3 Major mistakes blondies make on vacation ☀️

🤦🏼‍♀️Not prepping your hair before you go in the pool or the ocean. Chlorine can turn your blonde green and the ocean can severely dry out your hair. Rinse your hair in the shower and add a little conditioner before enjoying the pool or ocean.

🤦🏼‍♀️Not covering your hair with a hat. The sun brightens and lift your hair, which can strip out your toner and make your blonde golden.

🤦🏼‍♀️Using travel shampoo, that is not Salon grade. The shampoo can strip out your toner (making it brassy) and dry out your blonde hair. Reusable travel shampoo containers are the way to go.

If you’re a Blondie going on vacation, please don’t make these mistakes. These are the difference between having dry, brassy blonde hair and gorgeous bright blonde locks.
