You can change anything you want, but first you have to know where you are going. What do you want to change and why?
Life isn't always about the big actions we take. Many times it is the small, daily acts that allow us to change the world, one person at a time.
Happy 4th of July weekend!
We all need a reminder every now and again...
Nutrition is key to mental health. If your brain isn’t getting the nutrients it needs to function, how can it function properly?
Diet remains a crucial and under-appreciated contributor to brain health. A new study may help change that, as it shows those who eat a “healthy” diet have larger brain volumes and more gray matter. Even better results could be expected by eschewing grains, which can cause leaky gut, inflammation, and elevated glycemic markers. https://bit.ly/3Fy8HKx
Microbiota from Young Mice Improve Cognitive Function in Older Recipients Aging-associated changes in peripheral and brain immunity of old mice were reversed by the transfer of gut microbiota from young mice.

We have decided to serve those who risked their life to protect the freedoms of the United States of America. With the current state of Afghanistan, it is important to talk with others who understand what you are thinking and feeling. We will facilitate this group weekly as long as there is a need, every Thursday at 7:30pm CST.
You can register to join the group at http://www.paasitherapy.com/veterans/. After you register, you will receive an email with details.

Choosing a heavily plant-rich diet is advantageous for protecting cognitive health by multiple mechanisms, from the many phytonutrients such as protective polyphenols and anthocyanidins to the detoxifying and glycemic-lowering fiber to the plant prebiotics to the many other benefits associated with plant components. However, adding carefully chosen animal proteins can offer additional neuroprotection.
When choosing animal protein, prioritize those high in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, an omega-3 fat) and choline, both essential for brain health and both often deficient in our diets. DHA incorporates into cell membranes, improving fluidity which aids in cell transport and communication, as well as reducing inflammation. Additionally, DHA increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), which supports synapse formation and prevents cognitive decline. The best DHA source is seafood, such as salmon, mussels, oysters, and snow crab.
Choline has major neuroprotective importance because it serves as a precursor for acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter critical for memory formation. Choline also helps reduce homocysteine, which is linked to both dementia and cardiovascular disease. Good choline sources include pastured eggs, liver, and grass-fed beef.
If you wish to incorporate these animal proteins into your diet, try consuming wild-caught seafood and pastured eggs. Specifically, eat fish that are wild-caught, cold-water, high in omega-3s, and low in mercury. Egg yolks and liver that are 100% pastured are excellent sources of choline.

Nutrition is paramount to mental health!
The Environmental Working Group’s new “Dirty Dozen” list is out, helping us to identify the produce highest in pesticides and therefore most important to buy only organic. It’s a good idea to buy all USDA organic produce, but if your budget is tight and/or you’re struggling to find organic, the following is a list of KetoFLEX 12/3 approved (low glycemic) vegetables and fruits that should always be organic either because they are high in pesticides or otherwise typically genetically modified. Please note that in addition to edamame, all soy (tofu, tempeh, miso) should always be USDA organic.

The only true failure in life is to stop trying. Never give up on yourself!
Just a little humor about the roller coaster we call life 😊
Change occurs in the consistency of repetition.
Courage is finding strength when we feel weak. We usually think of strength as doing something bold and brave, but when we feel weak, strength can be seen when we get out of bed or when we ask for help. Pay attention to those times of strength that are usually ignored to help you take the next step.
