π May is Mental Health Awareness Month! π
Enrichment activities are vital for our kids' mental well-being. They:
Provide a positive distraction: Enrichment activities capture our clients' attention, diverting their focus away from stressors or negative thoughts. These activities require concentration and active involvement, helping clients immerse themselves fully in the present moment.
Build social connections: Group activities and outings provide opportunities for our youth to connect with peers, develop friendships, and build a supportive community, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Provide a sense of accomplishment: Engaging in enriching activities offers opportunities to set goals, overcome challenges, and experience a sense of achievement. As our clients acquire new skills, complete tasks, or reach milestones, they build confidence, reinforcing their sense of worth and capability.
We're gearing up for an exciting summer filled with enriching experiences for our kids! If you're interested in sponsoring an activity or outing, please reach out to Lisa Rodgers at [email protected].
Your support can make a world of difference! π

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a dedicated workgroup from CRH America, facilitated by our new board member, Kristin Lane. This incredible team, consisting of approximately 70 individuals, arrived at My Friends House ready to roll up their sleeves and make a difference. Despite unexpected rain, they quickly adapted and transformed our indoor spaces, tackling deep cleaning tasks with enthusiasm. From washing windows to sanitizing toys, no detail was overlooked.
What's more, these volunteers hailed not only from across the country but from various countries worldwideβa truly international effort! π Their generosity didn't stop there; they also generously contributed by purchasing a new TV for the shelter. As we embrace the arrival of Spring, one of our therapists organized an activity for our clients during our Transitional Living Program Nurture Group to symbolize the fresh start this season brings. πΈ
As a group, the residents discussed the significance of spring and how it brings new growth and life all around us. Each resident was invited to select a "bloom" and write down their goals for this season of renewal. Following this, they βplantedβ their flower in a βfieldβ displayed within the Youth Resource Center for all to see and be inspired. We extended this activity to our Street Outreach Program clients and staff, encouraging their participation.
After the activity, the residents reflected on its impact, expressing how it helped them identify what their current priorities are. By writing down their hopes and seeing them displayed, they felt inspired to work towards their goals and maintain hope for the future. π± π
Welcome to Board Member Monday! Today we are introducing two of our newest board members, Jim Dolan and Chad Nail. Weβre happy to have you both on the team. ππ
