NEW OFFICE HOURS are Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.

If you have a question or need to make a scheduling change please contact us during the above hours at 734-892-1447. If you are contacting us outside of the above hours, we will contact you back the next business day.

We remain physically open for you to drop off or pick up your dog Monday-Friday 6:30am-9:00pm and Saturday-Sunday 7:30am-9:00pm.

NOSEWORK CLASS STARTING SOON:

Jackie and Aaron are teaching the dogs the intro to Nosework which we will start up again very soon as a group class. Nosework is teaching your dog to find hidden scents, at first getting them use to finding it in your hand results in a treat reward from the table or treat pouch.

After that we cross the hands so that the dog has to discern which hand it is in instead of just one hand. Later we teach them to search boxes for the hidden scent and then move on to more advanced searches where the scent is hidden in a small container and placed in a room out of sight.

We will offer the class on Wednesdays at 8pm in the near future. It'll be a subscription class so that you can continue your dog's learning to the advanced levels.

Michael will teach the first class and later on Jackie and Aaron will take them over. Michael is a former Police K9 Officer who trained dogs to detect narcotics, hidden people, cadaver, and explosives. His current dog Kaboom took first place at a UKC trial with his dog finding the scent within 4 seconds.

Weather Update: FYI, MDT never lost power or the AC, so the dogs in residence are safe and sound and enjoying their activities.

We lost our internet up until now, so my evening Office Manager will be getting back with everyone this evening between 6-8pm.

Congratulations to Kim Berry and her dog Kai for passing the Advanced Canine Good Citizen evaluation today! They are participating in 20 private lessons with Michael Burkey. Great job Kim and Kai!

Erin and Charlie are doing excellent in their Train Your Own Service Dog program at Michigan Dog Training with Michael Burkey.

At Detroit Metro Airport, Charlie and Erin prepare for when he will be flying with his mom; getting use to the crowds, moving luggage conveyors, riding in elevators, etc. It was definitely a busy day at the airport.

Congratulations to Melanie Laber and her dog Chet for successfully passing the Canine Good Citizen title today!

They are a great team and participated in MDT's CGC class with MDT Dog Trainer Aaron Quevedo to prepare for the evaluation. They have their sights now on the Advanced CGC class at MDT which starts next Sunday.

Be sure to watch the 5pm news today for their story about the Comfort Crew (School Therapy Dogs) at Berkeley school system.The crew graduates today from their comprehensive training and testing program with Michael Burkey, Dog Behaviorist and CEO of Michigan Dog Training.

To better serve our clients, we have switched our Client Relationship Management (CRM) system from PocketSuite to ConnectXperts (CX). It is a more robust system.

We made this change in February 2024 but continued PocketSuite in the background in case someone didn’t know about the change.

MDT Service Dogs brought joy and education to kids at summer camp. See the comments for the story.

Michigan Dog Training trains in all kinds of weather including today's rain. This way, the dogs are accustomed and will perform in all types of weather when they go home to their parents.

An added bonus of today's training session, was the dogs got to socialize with 50 summer camp kids from MiYOUchad in Westland's Nankin Park. More information on that event is forthcoming. The kids and the dogs had a blast!
