Over the past few days members of both the Senior and Junior Fair Boards attended the 99th Annual Ohio Fair Managers Convention in Columbus. During the event The Meigs County Fair was recognized by the Ohio Department of Agriculture for our 2023 fair.

We also were recognized for placing second for small fairs in the following categories in the
2023 Ohio Fairs Communication Awards:
Promotional Outdoor Ad
Printed Promotional Brochure
Fair Premium Book Cover
Promoting Ad Education
Miscellaneous Use of Technology

During the convention Jr Fair Board members Raeann Schagel & Bradley Dillon, along with Jr Fair Coordinator - Amanda Faulk; 4H Educator - Mackenzie Lowe; and Volunteer - Jonathan Barrett all presented two different sessions for attendees to learn some of the great things that we do.

Attending convention allows us to continue to stay up to date on new rules/regulations and learn new ideas and share our ideas with other jr and sr fair boards from across the state.

We are looking forward to this year’s fair, which will be held August 12-17th.

Meigs County was well represented tonight. Sidney did an exceptional job at the Ohio Fairs' Queen Contest. We are so proud of her!!

Congratulations Michelle Stumbo!!

A big congratulations to Educator Michelle Stumbo for receiving a Distinguished Service Award during our Ohio Association Meeting of the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals. The Distinguished Service Award is presented to four 4-H Educators across the state and recognizes members of the association for significant contributions to the 4-H Youth Development profession. To earn a DSA, members must be Educators for at least seven years. Michelle will also be recognized next fall at the NAE4-HYDP national conference in Boise, Idaho. We are proud to have Michelle here in Meigs County!

New Volunteer Applications are due Monday, December 4 by 4 PM! Visit go.osu.edu/meigsnewvol24 to apply now. Monday is also the deadline to tell the office you are interested in starting a new 4-H club, so give us a call at 740-992-6696.

The Meigs County Fair Royalty has been busy this weekend getting into the Christmas spirit. Here they were at the Racine Christmas Parade and one from the Pomeroy Parade.

We would like to thank Peoples Bank for sponsoring the 2023 Meigs County Fair Queen and Livestock Prince and Princess. Also the Rutland VFD Auxiliary for their sponsorship of the Little Miss and Mister.

Such a great cause and thanks to everyone that made the haunted house a huge success!!

We would like to wish Norm Evans (Brother) a very Happy Birthday today!! Norm does a lot for the fair and we hope that he has a wonderful Birthday!!

Market Steer/Heifer and Dairy Steer Tag-In is Saturday, December 16 from 9 AM to 9:30 AM at the fairgrounds!

I would like to take a moment to thank these two guys below for serving on the Meigs Fairboard. Many countless hours of volunteer work, meetings, late nights, and sacrificing time with family . Bobby Calaway served 9 terms (27 years) on Fairboard. Bobby, could always be found in the livestock barns, primarily cattle, but also chickens and rabbits. All exhibitors knew to look for Bobby for direction or advice. My personal first memories of 4H all have Bobby and Joann in them as they helped each and every exhibitor for many many years! I have a feeling you will still see Bobby in the barns for many years to come!! Steve Swatzel served 6 terms (18 years) and could be found anywhere on the grounds a horse might be! Steve has kept the harness racing program at Meigs alive and growing over the years! Steve also spent many hours with the 4H horse events. One very important behind the scenes job Steve had was being our gate manager. Countless hours spent making sure each of our gates had the proper staff, equipment, shift changes, and money collection. This job started every day at 6:30am and often not over before midnight!! I think you will also see Steve at the horse events for many years to come!!! Please send out a much deserved THANK YOU to both of these guys for their dedicated time to the Meigs Fairboard!!
