Never forget the sacrifices 80 years ago today.
The rifle is affixed with a bayonet and inverted, signifying that the Soldier went down fighting. The boots signify the Soldier’s last march onto the battlefield. Dog tags are imprinted with the Soldier’s name and hung from the rifle so their identity will never be forgotten. The helmet is placed atop the rifle representing what the Soldier stood for and signifying that their battle is now over. The Battlefield Cross is a sacred symbol amongst military members. Since a funeral is typically not possible during wartime, these symbols serve as a rallying point where surviving members of a unit can mourn and remember their fallen comrades. This Memorial Day, reach out to the Veterans that you know and give them a simple message: “We Remember.” We remember our country’s fallen, your brothers and sisters, and we appreciate and honor their sacrifice.
Please take a moment today to remember what today is all about and all those lost.
Today members of the Post and volunteers distributed over 300 flags on Veteran graves for the upcoming Memorial Day. We would like to thank Columbia Bank for providing 15 of those volunteers. Please don’t forget the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Happy birthday, Frank! Frank is also a dedicated member of our Post and a Korean War Veteran.
Take a minute today to remember the brave lives lost at Pearl Harbor defending the United States from all her enemies both foreign and domestic.
We are all set up at Pompton Day. Come see us, especially if you have earned any of the medals that make you eligible to join.
Thank you to everyone who came out on this hot day to help make another successful co****le tournament. Please join the membership of VFW Post 2906 in honoring our Brothers and Sisters who paid the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our Nation at the Memorial Day Parade Sunday May 28th. The ceremony starts at 11:30am at Veterans Memorial Park off Lakeside Ave. A parade will follow down Colfax Ave. to Wanaque Ave ending at the VFW Post where refreshments will be served.
Our Grand Marshal for the Parade this year is Bob McGrady who has organized and run this parade for the last 50 years. Prior to Bob his father organized the parade. Bob is a veteran and retired town police officer. A well deserved honor for him.
This afternoon, members of VFW Post 2906 along with volunteers from the Pompton Lakes Rotary Club, and the Pompton Lakes Youth Recreation Organization placed over 300 American flags on Veterans headstones prior to Memorial Day. Thank you to all who volunteered their time.
