"After our gutters were installed, we discovered water from the valley of two roofs was not going into the gutter, no fault of Applegarth, this was a roofing issue, so it was agreed that we would wait for them to come out after our roof was replaced due to Ian.

With 80% of hurricane damage to homes are to the roof and gutters, it is important to prepare your home for hurricane season, which begins in June and ends in late November.

How can you proactively prepare your gutters for Florida hurricane season?

1. Maintain your downspouts:

Downspouts are often overlooked, yet a crucial part of your gutter system. They allow for the water to flow safely from your roof to down the side of your home.

Downspouts may cause pooling or overflowing during a severe storm. The pooling or overflowing from the downspouts can cause severe water damage to your home including:

Cracked walls
Uneven flooring
Foundation damage

To ensure your downspouts prevent any damage to your home, it is important to have your downspouts around three to four feet from your house.

2. Make sure your gutters are secure:

Hurricane winds can blow up to 130-160 mph, so it is crucial to ensure your gutters are secure and ready to withstand high winds.
