This week’s comes from .suth.photo ! She photographed Mark Tuan at the Showbox in Seattle with a Pentax IQ Zoom 120mi bought from us, shooting Cinestill 800T (no flash!) This cute little camera is the perfect size for concerts and other events.

She really wanted to photograph this because shooting concerts has been something she’s wanted to try for years! But due to the pandemic, that couldn’t happen for awhile. Thank goodness live music is back!!

These photos are from a test roll made by a customer whose Rolleicord III we saved after it fell in a pond. We were able to save it and send it back to her, and it works perfectly!

These photos were made on a Kowa Six using 120 Kodak Gold in the Alvord desert during a road trip through rural Oregon. He met and photographed small town locals and fellow travelers.

Advance Camera is currently searching for an eager, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to help assist us with our customers. Advance Camera has been repairing and servicing camera and photo equipment for over 30 years. We work on cameras from nearly every era and take a lot of pride in the work that we do. Our ideal candidate will have some camera expertise but more importantly they’ll be someone who is excited to build upon that knowledge. We’re looking for someone who is organized and people-oriented as the candidate’s main tasks would include assisting customers with repairs that come in the door, working closely with our techs to assess problems and communicate those issues to the customer, part ordering and receiving, and helping us get repairs back to our customers. This is a full-time position and we are looking for someone who is willing to work on Saturdays as we are open Tuesday - Saturday weekly. This past couple of years have been a good challenge for us as we’ve been busier than ever and would really love some help with maintaining the high level customer service that our patrons are accustomed to.

This position is Tuesday through Saturday, 10-6.

Hello and Happy Friday everyone! We're currently hiring for a full-time position!

We're looking for someone to manage repairs and help direct internal repair flow. They would work with our customers, from shops and schools that send us repairs to walk-in customers. You will be also be working with manufacturers for parts and repairs. Additionally, you must have good organizational skills and be a self starter. Love of cameras and people is a must! The position is Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-6pm.

This week, our Feature Friday is made up of three beautiful photos made by on a Minolta X-570 that we repaired.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The first is just a fun shot of sheep on what we think is Lomochrome purple film - if you haven’t tried it yet, do it! The second image was made while Jeff worked in Texas along the Mexican border. It was outside of a worksite that was almost inaccessible, even with a 4x4 truck. Last but not least, the waterfall image was made on a day off when Jeff was near Yosemite while working in California, so they spent the day walking around the park!

This FT-2 is one for the books. It’s a Soviet-era panoramic camera, manufactured between 1958-1968.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It takes 35mm film, but the film has to be loaded into special cassettes. It’s a 120 degree image that’s made over a curved film plane using the simple metal viewfinder. The viewfinder itself is interesting because it folds down when not in use and there’s a circular level in front of it.

This camera was released under several different names - the Spiratone, the Panorama, and the Spaceview - and there were 16,662 made.

This week’s image comes from Robert, who recently had their mother’s old Ricoh XR-P repaired by us. Its mirror had slipped out of place, and we were able to fix it for them. This is from the first roll that they ran through the camera, using Arista EDU 400, on the full auto program mode. The meter is working great for them, and this image is beautiful! We’re so happy that we were able to repair this camera for you Robert!

Our techs Joe and Jodi do most of the cleanings, but sometimes Dave will pop in to do big ones like medium format cameras. We do sensor cleanings on mirrorless cameras as well! With each body that comes in for a cleaning, we include one lens with it for free.

After the camera is detailed and cleaned, our techs print a before and after sheet of the sensor that’s with your camera when you pick it up. That way you can see the difference and how thorough our techs are!

Bryan’s been working on this counter wind assembly for an Olympus OM-1! This is the backside of the assembly that hooks up to the advance lever.

Taking a look at individual parts and how they fit into each section of a camera is interesting because you see how each part has a specific purpose. One of my favorite parts of the shop is seeing the techs work and talking to them! Bryan said he likes how some camera parts look like faces and it’s fun to see which they look like!

This camera is still in repair but will be back with its owner soon! We know our repair times are long, but we appreciate how patient our customers are, knowing that our work is excellent and solid.

The Nikon F100 is an amazing camera, but it has one quirk that has a tendency to pop up again after repair. The back door latch breaks, and it’s a common problem that can be costly. The entire back door has to be replaced, only to be replaced when the new door’s latch breaks! Traditionally, the entire door has to be replaced- it isn’t as simple as just replacing the latch.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Or is it? Will found a person on Flickr who encountered this problem, but instead of going through the motions of replacing the door, he got creative and made one out of metal. This metal latch replaces the broken plastic one, which you can see in the photos above.

The photos show the repaired camera side by side with a parts camera we use, and you can see the clear difference. The metal latch closes the door perfectly and keeps it locked with no issues.

This method of manufacturing new parts to solve old problems is something we’re excited to be a part of! Not only are we looking for vendors like this, but we’re also looking at vendors who make parts that are hard to find or no longer made using 3-D printers. If your camera has a hard to find part, we’ll do our best to find it or have it made!

It’s Feature Friday here at Advance Camera! This week, we’re showing these beautiful images made by Mike, one of our longtime customers down in California.

This is Nathan and his dad Kenny, who own Set Free Thrift in Mariposa, CA that’s run by a church of the same name. Kenny owns the shop and Nathan works there. This first image was taken when Nathan was on break and Mike stopped by with his camera! He asked if it was okay to take a picture, so Nathan put his book down and relaxed for the image. Mike told us that not only does Nathan at the shop, but he is also a tattoo artist and has run a shop out of the thrift store for about a year now. Who would’ve guessed that there’s a tattoo shop inside a thrift store?

Mike took these images on his Mamiya 6 Automat with Arista EDU 100, processed with Acufine developer. Learning what film customers use is so interesting because everyone has their preference - black and white vs color, ISO, pro lab development or using your own darkroom are all things we as photographers think about when choosing what to shoot with which gear.
