After taking over CRW on Saturday, April 1st (😜) it took less than 48 hours for this long standing partnership to dissolve over irreconcilable differences. At the heart of the matter is whether to paint the building purple & gold or green & yellow. As a result, Ken and Ian handed the keys back to previous ownership on Monday morning. Back to 1, folks. Today, we mourn the loss of our friend Dick Fosbury, an Olympic gold medalist, and an Oregon state track legend. Dick was known for developing the revolutionary "Fosbury Flop" high-jump technique, which changed the game for high jumpers worldwide.
We remember Dick for his incredible contributions to the sport of track and field and his dedication to pushing the boundaries of what was possible. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of athletes to come.
Rest in peace, Dick Fosbury. You will be deeply missed.

Industry Spotlight: Juliana Lukasik

We hope you're all staying safe and healthy. We had the opportunity to chat with Juliana Lukasik and learn about her recent work in the non-profit world. With clients like Nintendo and Banfield Pet Hospital, her production company, Films, has been a staple of Portland's commercial production scene for over 20 years. Cine Rent West has had the pleasure of hosting several of her projects, so we were incredibly excited to hear about what she's been up to.

As an award-winning director, Juliana has fiercely advocated for gender & age equality in the media industry. Her passion for community building and volunteerism recently led her to pivot from Films, and she is now the Senior Director of Communications & Public Affairs at Central City Concern (CCC). Since the late 70s, CCC has been helping Portlanders who struggle with the pain and harm of homelessness by utilizing an integrated system of compassionate care.

Non-profits are sometimes the best at promoting their services, but that's where Juliana comes in. Her vast experience with external branding in the advertising industry has allowed CCC to refine its message and connect with its community more effectively. After being hired in March 2020, her first day on the job was the very same day Governor Brown issued the pandemic shutdown order. It's been all hands on deck ever since as COVID's economic fallout continues to exacerbate homelessness throughout the city.

Battling the narrative has been challenging as news media outlets focus on clickbait tactics. That sensationalism creates a negative press c*cle that often highlights failures rather than successes for organizations like CCC. A large part of her new role is highlighting their clients' success stories to ensure they're noticed. Since joining CCC, she's directed two documentaries that do just that, with more projects in the pipeline. In 2022 CRW worked with 1031 Capital Solutions to produce 27 educational videos for their web platform. Their expertise in real estate investing and our production capabilities successfully educated their audience on the power of a 1031 exchange, real estate investing, and real estate taxation basics.

We brought our producing skills to the table by creating a dynamic set that gave a visual interest to the educational content.

Lights, camera, action! , and Kira Duff are wrapping up a three-day video shoot with - here's a sneak peek of the upcoming 2023 Open Enrollment spots showing how much Oregonians can save on their premiums when they enroll for health coverage through healthcare.oregon.gov.

We’re so excited to announce that local director, will begin principal photography this November on a thrilling independent feature film titled, Lilly. Starring and , the film is currently all crewed up and in the additional casting phase. As a lower budget production, keeping tight schedules with extra focus on prep-work is extremely important. Producer Sarah Johnston and AD Blake Hawes are using pre-planned shot lists for the entire script to maximize time and efficiency for the film’s day-out-of-days schedule.

About the film: “When Lilly’s child dies suddenly in a home accident and she is suspected of foul play, she runs away to hide in a lonely corner of her small town. Facing ridicule and rumors from her community, she struggles to cope with her own traumatic memories, and the guilt of outliving her child. On the ten-year anniversary of her daughter’s death, what would normally be a time for grieving has become a time for reckoning. Fueled by booze and pills, the fabric of Lilly’s world is tearing apart and becoming otherworldly. The ghosts of her past are waking up and tonight she must face the depths of her manic madness and a haunting she won’t soon forget.”

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Martin here at the studio on several occasions and we can’t say enough about his unique ability to capture powerful visuals, both as a director and a cinematographer. Working in production and post for various commercial studios, he founded the post-production company ‘Treehouse Post.’ Since 2010, Martin has directed various shorts, commercials, and a television pilot in partnership with Sir David Frost and Red Europe in London.
