Parents assert that seclusion is occurring in MA schools. Each parent interviewed has a child with a disability. The state does not require schools to report on their use of "timeout," or notify parents.

Secluding a child is supposed to be prohibited in Mass. schools. But parents say the practice is still in use. - The Boston Globe In one case, a school told a mother her son had been put in a closed-door timeout 56 times during one school year, for a total of 49 hours.

Leah's family was told that an independent school - which charged her local council £250,000 per year - would be able to meet her needs. She found herself being repeatedly restrained.

NY State Assemblywoman Solages recently introduced A.10644 to make it illegal to use certain punishments in schools. The bill would limit the use of restraint and time outs.

✨ The goal of the Empathy Step is to gather information from the child about his/her concern or perspective on the unsolved problem you’re discussing (preferably proactively).
For many adults, this is the most difficult part of Plan B, as they often find that they are unsure of what to ask next.

NYC schools suspended students 10,674 times from July through December 2023 -marking a 0.64% rise in total suspensions when compared to the same time period last year.

In England, school exclusions and suspensions reached the highest level ever recorded. There were 9,400 permanent exclusions and 786,961 suspensions in 2022-23.
