Digital Imaging is the single most exciting development in photography I've seen in fifty years. Let us be your guide through the digital wilderness.
The Vermont Photographic Workshops will help you bridge the digital divide, teach you to use your digital equipment effectively, and inspire you to reach your creative aspirations. From digital capture to Photoshop post processing through to the fine-art digital print, VPW leads the way.

After 3 months in the Sedona area, volunteering at the Palatki National Heritage site, it's time to move on, and we're headed for the Sonoran desert just west of Tucson to enjoy the rest of the Monsoon rain season.

9,955 followers as of this morning, just a couple of days away from the 10,000 milestone. I wonder who will be number ten thousand?
Unexpected and breathtaking, a meadow of avalanche lily in the fog totally captivated me.
A carpet of avalanche lily in peak bloom illuminates this meadow on the flank of a very foggy Tahoma.

Afternoon clouds and storms FINALLY kept the temps below 100, so that I could "comfortably" get out to explore Sedona a little bit more. The views from the Yavapai Viewpoint were spectacular.

A brilliant memory from 4 years ago: I'll probably never see another comet to match Comet Neowise, nor see one in such an outstanding setting. And I'm happy with that.
2020: It looks like this may be my last image of Comet Neowise; high clouds and evening fog diminish or obscure it recently. What a memorable week this has been...

Early morning sunlight reflected off the vernal Grotto pool may partly explain why the ancient people felt that this was such a place of strong magic. Or not...who knows for sure?

It's Waterfall Wednesday in the Sedona area.
I just posted a memory image from Acadia, a ten-point buck I photographed on my way to make images of the full buck moon. This was that moonrise. I doubt that we'll return to the East Coast for any future 'moonrise over the ocean' images, but never say never.
A strong monsoon storm provided quite a show last evening, with lots af thunder and lightning, and enough rain to get the waterfalls running over the red rock cliffs.

When early morning sunlight reflects off the vernal pool of the Grotto, it dances across the cave walls, which no doubt added to the magic of this site for ancient peoples.

One of the two features on the tour of the Palatki Heritage Site is the Pictograph Grotto, where hundreds of painted or scratched symbols adorn its walls. Carved out by eons of rain which pours down the back wall and collects in a pool, this site was no doubt considered a magical and sacred place.
(This image was created from 18 HDR exposures, 3 each of 6 panels, and stitching them all to make this ultrawide view of the Grotto.)

Mammatus clouds like these often portend a severe thunderstorm, perhaps with hail, but these were all show and no substance. While we need the rain, we do NOT need hail, so perhaps this worked out for the best.

Discovery of the day: A red laser beam shone on the wall of a building will drive hummingbirds crazy
Coming down from my last tour at the Palatki cliff dwelling, I looked up to see...THIS! Mammatus clouds looming over our Red Canyon, forming over the Colorado Plateau to the north. I went out about a half-mile to the "entrance" of our box canyon to get this wider view. Perhaps there IS something to this Sedona Vortex thing after all...

Early morning is the best time for a walk around this little box canyon ... it's both cool and wonderous.

A small beam of early morning sunlight illuminates the interior of a single datura blossom. Soon this beauty will wilt and fade.
