Our Story
PORTLAND RECOVERY DHARMA·MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2019·
Recovery Dharma is a peer-led movement using Buddhist practices and principles to overcome addiction.
We believe that the traditional Buddhist teachings (“Dharma”) offer a powerful approach to healing from addiction and living a life of true freedom. By following a balanced path of understanding, ethical behavior, and mindfulness, all beings have the potential to find happiness and free themselves from the suffering of repetitive craving.
We are a community of people dedicated to the practices of mindfulness, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity, using meditation and kindness to heal the pain and suffering that addiction has caused in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
Our weekly meetings include guided meditations, readings from the Recovery Dharma book or other Buddhist texts, group sharing and discussion.
Open to people of all backgrounds and respectful of all recovery paths, these meetings are appropriate for anyone in, or interested in recovery from all forms of addictive behavior. No prior meditation experience or knowledge of Buddhism is necessary.
There are currently two weekly meetings in Portland, Maine:
Saturdays 5-6:30 pm
Tuesdays 5:30-6:45 pm
