This month I’m observing 12 years of being single, parenting 3 kids alone, (and not in the plans - one of those children got bone cancer🎗 ) and moving to Portland - with not a second of regret in all that time.

Before I left, a gallery had asked some of us women artists to use our medium to make a “self portrait”. I had already been “upcycling” since childhood (before it was a thing and I was NOT a cool kid!) and had been selling my art for several years. My “self portrait” was taking old, used up, abused clothing and making something new and beautiful out of them, which is how I felt at the time. I love pink and roses so that also represented a part of me. This dress and skirt was hung in the gallery with my statement.

Afterwards I had this shoot done by my hero brother to memorialise how I was feeling.

Antique White and Plaid dress… I ADORE this dress so much, but sadly none of us can fit in it, so it needs to find it’s new loving home! 😍

Way back when… my 20 year old (😳) daughter was still inside me, I took on making my sister’s wedding gown. She was beautiful in it and it’s probably still one of my favourites.

I found this gorgeous handmade vintage sherbet dress at a free swap a couple of weeks ago and was thrilled to pieces! It just needed part of the hem and zipper mended and good as new! What have you found to add to your sustainable closet recently? {hat is for sale which is tagged}.

My clothes were all hand-me-downs cousins would send us, even birthday gifts. If it wasn’t a hand-me-down, it was made by my maternal grandmother - you can always tell in photos what she made for me because they were blue - a story for another time. 💙
