Annual Quilting Conference - 5 days each September!
I just published a blog post about the Star Island Gosport Chapel at https://artquiltblog.wordpress.com/ if you want to take a peek...
Very surprised and Happy to see my pattern on Quiltwoman.com's most recent email...
We had a wonderful 2023 season on Star! A few hiccups when we had to come home early due to the hurricane Lee, but we got packed up in time to make the boat and it was a gorgeous day to be on the Thomas Leighton! Also, first time ever we were there for the last day of guests - did you know the Pel tradition is to come running from the Oceanic yelling "you forgot your bags?" and then they toss the bag towards the boat and when it falls in the water, they jump in after it! Must have been close to a dozen pels jumping in and so much fun to watch! Add to that a Mardi Gras parade around the island, ice cream socials, gorgeous sunsets, a beautiful rainbow, a marshmallow roast, AND sewing, quilting, laughing and swimming and it was just another Awesome Star Adventure! Thanks to all who joined in for our adventure and made even the mishaps a small bump in the Star road with their laughter and friendship! We will come back, we will come back, we will come back and hopefully next year - no hurricanes! Special thanks to our friends the Zoller's for the hand dyed (ice dyed fabrics) and our friends at the local quilt shops who provided generous door prizes - Village Quilt Shop in Berwick, Seacoast Sewing and Portsmouth Fabric in Portsmouth, NH. Your support means so much to us and the gifts were fabulous! Thank you, Thank you! Jaci & Jean
Mardi Gras! That is the theme of our quilt conference on Star this year and many thanks to Cyndi & Jonas Zoller of Farmington, NH for the ice dyed fabrics in signature Mardi Gras colors, as well as their beautiful mandalas for door prizes and bingo prizes. We would also like to thank Jill of Seacoast Sewing and Gretchen of Portsmouth Fabric for their generous door prizes and support of our conference. They have always been gracious in letting us put up conference signs and providing door prizes for our quilters. Please shop local and let them know how much their support is appreciated by our star quilters and other local quilters!
What's better than a quilt conference on Star Island? A chance to be artist in residence on Star in the summer AND THEN GO BACK for a quilt conference! I had a great time on Star Island working on my art projects and meeting conference attendees from Faith Development and Building Bridges as well as working with the Pels for an art project! What a blessing - the conferences were so welcoming and interesting - and Jean Kearney came to keep me company for a few days - always a blessing! And we met Vandy from Epping who is a Soul Collage Artist with a studio for Artists in Epping (very cool!). I got lots of porch time and worked on a sea turtle of Australian fabrics I got from Rosemary Maciolek a while back (thank you Rosemary!) and started a confetti collage of the Chapel - what a great chance to just focus on art! Thank you Star Island! A beautiful place and the summer rain is warm! I have only been on Star in the fall...so to sit outside on the porch and watch the rain and not be chilly - amazing! And the clouds...I love clouds! Thank you to our Amazing Creator God for clouds in the heavens and stars in the night sky!
Hi Quilters! We are working behind the scenes to get ready for a fabulous conference in September! We have our theme picked out - Mardi Gras - and Jean is finding goodies and party favors to bring a little cajun flavor to our celebrations! Space is filling up quickly so don't wait to register - starisland.org/programs/
We are out on Star! The weather is not cooperating, but the barn is warm and the machines are hummingI I dropped off a pillow for the silent auction and watched the mid-morning demonstration - now to get my machine humming!
There is still time to join us in September on Star Island! Only 45 minutes by ferry from Portsmouth, NH and it's 5 days of quilting on an ISLAND!
