Hello beautiful humans!
Thanks to everyone who attended our last meeting! The minutes are attached. Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 2, from 6-7:30pm (email [email protected] for zoom link). Before now and the next meeting we'll be asking for volunteers to join committees to address our two priority initiatives, one for youth programs in the City of Poughkeepsie and another for ongoing work in police reform. We'll have at least one meeting for the youth programs committee before our next regular meeting, so please respond to this email if you'd like to be involved with either committee. If you don't have time to join the committee but would like to submit suggestions regarding problems that need to be addressed in the city and possible youth programs that would address them please feel free to send an email to that effect to [email protected]
Community happenings/events:
Common Council Public hearing TONIGHT on Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP)- TONIGHT, Tuesday, January 18th there is an important hearing on the city’s proposed Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). This is an important plan that will guide future development in the city all along the river and up to Market Street, as well as along the Falkill. The administration has presented a draft LWRP that favors residential development over open space, public access, and recreational amenities. It lacks any vision for the future protection of our vital waterfront resources and puts the interests of one developer over those of our community. We need everyone who is able to attend the hearing and speak out to say we need to preserve our last remaining public spaces on the waterfront for everyone’s enjoyment and to mitigate climate change impacts. Please urge the Common Council to fulfill their duty as lead agency for the LWRP and amend it to put people over profits.

Hello Beautiful Humans and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
We have made it to a new chapter in our lives, let's prosper and make this our year! We are having our monthly PCAC Meeting TOMORROW 1/5/2022 at 6pm. EMAIL [email protected] for THE ZOOM LINK!!!
As you all know the Common Council passed an amendment to the city's budget that included OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS for youth services and development. This represents a year-over-year increase of 640%.
Please join us tomorrow to discuss this great win! The agenda for tomorrow's meeting is as follows:
1. Youth Program Funding Initiative SUCCESS and next steps. (30 min)
2. Presentation on Affordable Housing Project (Wallace Campus)- this would be Poughkeepsie's largest affordable housing project ever (186 units) if it receives planning board approval on 1/18/21. That approval is in question and will require community support. (30 min)
3. Following up with our work on police reform and other potential initiatives for 2022. (30 min)
CONGRATULATIONS TO US ALL AND SEE YOU TOMORROW!!!

City of Poughkeepsie Family,
ALL HANDS ON DECK!! The City of Poughkeepsie Common Council has scheduled a Public Hearing on Monday, December 13th at 6:00 pm to get feedback from the community on the 2022 budget. This is the last major opportunity to urge the Common Council to allocate at least 2 to 3 million dollars to help our youth through youth programs. The right youth programs can give our kids the hope, knowledge and skills they need to not just survive, but to succeed and thrive.
PLEASE SIGN UP TO SPEAK AT THE MEETING. Every voice counts! To register for the meeting, click this link:

Though the registration says the meeting starts at 5:30, the hearing for the budget begins at 6:00. This is because the same link is being used for multiple Public Forums. After registering for the meeting, you must email Jasmin Nicole Davis at [email protected] to get on the list of speakers.
It is CRITICAL that we get as many people to speak as possible. Please pass the word and get more people to sign up. We would also like to know in advance who plans to speak, so that we can be assured we will have a good turn out.
PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO [email protected] TO LET US KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO SPEAK. If you’d like any talking points beyond the petition and related material, just let us know!
Thank you all for your support!

If the police were afraid of being falsely accused of brutality, they'd be actively demanding to be filmed at all times. But they don't.
If the police didn't want to be seen as a gang, they'd be demanding the repeal of all laws against victimless actions so their only focus would be on violent criminals. But they don't.
If the police feared for their lives in every encounter with civilians, they'd do everything they could to reduce the number of encounters. For example, they'd demand the repeal of quotas, and they'd feel relieved when social workers want to take over some of those encounters. But they don't.
If the police didn't want to be judged as a group when one of them does something bad, they'd be actively and openly condemning the bad police officers and making sure everyone witnesses that. But they don't.
It's almost as if everything the police say is a lie.
