Love First. Love More. Love Now.

Let there be light
Where there is darkness
Let there be hope
When there is none
Let there be peace
In the midst of sorrow
Let there be love
To bring us back home ~ Mac Powell

While the Bible clearly teaches self-worth, it also denounces self-interest. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, He said that we were to love God with all our hearts, and love others with the same concern that we show for ourselves (See Mk 12:30-31). When we obsess over ourselves, we lose the meaning of life, which is to love and serve God, and love and serve our neighbors. In a 2003 report, Hardwired to Connect, thirty-three research scientists discovered that we are biologically primed to find meaning through relationships. Chuck Colson said: “After nearly eight decades of living, I can vouch for this. My single greatest joy is giving myself to others and seeing them grow in return. You cannot discover that without commitment. I first learned it by watching my parents care for my dying grandparents in our home…l later saw it in the Marine Corps. You cannot command forty-five men to go into combat, as I was trained to do, if you aren’t committed to one another. You are going to die if the man next to you does not cover your back…By abandoning commitment, our narcissistic culture has lost the one thing it desperately seeks: happiness. Without commitment, our individual lives will be barren and sterile. Without commitment, our lives will lack meaning and purpose. After all, if nothing is worth dying for, then nothing is worth living for. Jesus taught that the only way to live abundantly is to die to self-interest and give yourself fully to God, and to those who need what God has given you.”

Pray for how you can give yourself in service to be love in-action that says, “You are loved” “You have a purpose” and “You are not alone”. You are invited to join our Team of Hope-filled people as we prepare to love on our neighbors at Hope Fest Arizona – September 29th.

From our co-founder, exec director Jaye Lene. I can finally say it -- TODAY marks 25 years since I hit the end of the messed up life I found. I surrendered my stubborn rebellion, my self-protection, my addiction to drugs, the pain of being a sexual assault survivor, the heartache of an adulterous husband, my fear of being abandoned again, and my need to control things and people through the dysfunctions of codependency.

I surrendered my hurts, habits and hang-ups to the ONE True Higher Power of Jesus Christ!

The realization that I am in control of NOTHING! And the peace that my God loves me with a love and mercy that has shown up in my life in REAL CONCRETE ways over and over again. I have a testimony that NO ONE can argue with or take away.

I am FREE from drugs. FREE from the chains, the battle and FREE from the hell that makes up a life that is lost and tumbling in despair. Yep, that makes 9,125 Days and a gazillion steps to where I stand, blessed and amazed TODAY!!

This "freedom" does not mean that I won’t encounter any more heartache and disappointment, oh contraire as losing my precious sons is the most tremendous heartache I live every day. Life doesn’t stop happening, and I am not protected from this fallen world, so my testimony continues to be written until I am called to heaven.

I demanded change...demand to see the beauty and the peace. That does not mean my life is free from hurts or stormy challenges. Now I know whose arms to run to and that I have the freedom to choose my response and WHO I get to do life with. I get to choose WHO gets the Glory. I am no longer abandoned.

I’ve learned to understand how God loves me by using the tools I gained through Celebrate Recovery to help me find hope again and true healing that led me to turn scars into stars, hurts into halos, and a mess into a mission.

Look, in our recovery, God called David & me to create Hope Fest Arizona. Pastor John Baker, founder of Celebrate Recovery (pictured here at Summit 2012), and his son Johnny came to the first Hope Fest Arizona. I will always cherish his counsel and his big hug, saying, “You done good, girl. I’d never imagined taking CR to the streets like this. This is so cool!” He baptized 15 people that day.

Since that first time stepping out to reach, share, serve, and care for our hurting neighbors with our goal to show others what a healing, recovery-in-process life looks like. Hope Fest has served and prayed with tens of thousands.

Or take the loss of Travis in 2017 and Brandon in 2018. David and I could have collapsed with paralyzing heartache and grief, but instead, God showed us how to dig deeper into our CR tools and lessons and take the time we needed to sit with Jesus. We were transparent about our story and called on our incredible community, who stepped up in droves.

Then today, I learned that Hope Fest Arizona was nominated for the 5th Annual Prescott Area ATHENA Leadership Awards. We’ve never been after awards, so this is catching us by surprise.

And to think that 25 years ago, I was on the road to check-out, to not be here anymore. I would have missed out on my best life. Yes, I can say that even with the loss of the boys because I know that One Fine Day, I will be with them again. God promised, and I can believe him.

Our family is doing good. Kyle and Jessica are working on their Master's. They recently got into a new home, and the grandkids now live in Arizona. Jesse is good and Donna is living her best life.

God knew there was work to be done, but it was my free will that chose the healing path of recovery. I chose to live. I finally understood in my heart that His power blended with the life-altering ministry Celebrate Recovery produces a path of FOREVER blessed & loved no matter the challenge this life may bring!

I'm glad I did not know the plans He had for me in advance. I believe in miracles because I am one! I stand with my hands lifted and my heart given, surrendered to the ONE who saved me. I am thankful for millions of 2nd chances! How could I ask for more?

Faithful are you, Lord!

Thank you for Grace. 💜🤸‍♀️🌈🙏✨

A look back at a year past, in 2017, Hope Fest Arizona nearly did not take place. A message from our founders. Grace wins and will again!

Looking from where we came. A message from the Hope Fest Arizona founders July 22, 2017

Did you know the prospect of this year’s Hope Fest Arizona was in jeopardy? Many have asked and even wondered, “how” or “why” can this year’s Festival even be a possibility, considering the heartbreaking personal tragedy the Founders recently suffered? Here Jaye Lene & David Long reveal a touching transparent view into the inspiration that not only sustains them but a testament of where their help comes from when walking through the storms of life, in their own words...

Back in early February, we (Hope Fest Arizona Team) started the process of planning this year’s Festival and then life abruptly changed.

On February 24th of this year, while active-duty with the U.S. Army in Maui, Hawaii, our son Travis, Staff Sergeant and Purple Heart recipient – a true Warrior, suddenly passed to heaven. Our family, while suffering from this tremendous loss, traveled to Hawaii for his Platoon service on Oahu and escorted him to his final resting place in the National Cemetery here in Arizona. Understandably, our lives have been turned upside down and inside out in ways we could never have imagined.

My husband, David (Hope Fest AZ’s Production Captain), and I continue to lean on our faith that God has given us through His son Jesus for comfort, mercy and peace. We often cry and laugh in the same moment, but our faith, strength and conviction remain in Christ, our Savior. Although our dear friends, volunteers, our community, sponsors, and supporters of Hope Fest Arizona would certainly understand if we thought we needed to cancel this year’s Festival to be still and heal from losing our son. We know the enemy would love nothing more than to take us out and have us NOT serve the needs of our neighbors and drown us in depression. Well, that ain’t going to happen! We get to choose WHO gets the glory!

Travis was born Army-ready and since birth, his relentless passion was to be a Warrior and yet Trav was the Peacemaker of our family. How ironic that he would join the U.S. Army whose job it is to bring peace to all peoples of the earth. While still in quiet time with God; David and I paused to reflect and hear God speak to our tattered souls. He reminded that a Hero is not defined by death but by the way they live! Soldiers… Warriors push through sleep deprivation, horrible food and bare-bones living conditions, are away from their loved ones for most of their enlistment, their mental, physical and souls are challenged under extreme conditions and circumstances that demand hypervigilant attention to the mission of the moment regardless, if a brother died in their arms the day before --- REALITY CHECK! A powerful revelation came over us at that moment as David and I determined that we must STAND, we must RISE despite our painful heartbreak. Every day we put on the Armor of God whether we ‘feel’ like it or not! We answer the call as Warriors for Christ. Our God is faithful and His promises are true! His love endures and as believers, we know compassion, mercy and a hope that our broken searching community is longing for. We must step up and serve and REFLECT the love, mercy and hope to our neighbors that we’ve been given.

Thankfully, Hope Fest Arizona is much bigger than me, my husband, or any one person. Our amazing God has brought us together “for such a time as this” and designed us for significance, for His purpose and Glory! He is making a way! Our Team is more committed to serving our community and reaching the lost with the Truth of Jesus than ever. Jesus is our strength and through Him, we are VICTORIOUS!

“Get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you” Acts 26:16

We know that everyone is facing something, is going through a challenge or heartbreak. In our sorrow we are stronger together because we have a HOPE, a future and a joy that is insured! Join us on this journey to impact our community. Love IS the evidence ~ because He first loved us!
