This weekend, Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Governor Dan McKee announced $15 million in funding for Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, and OER through the U.S. Department of Transportation Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program to install charging stations across Rhode Island. This morning, Governor McKee, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Director Terry Gray and Acting OER Commissioner Chris Kearns joined Ethan Hattoy on a tour of Hattoy's Nursery and Garden Center.
This farm benefitted from the Rhode Island Farm Energy Resources: Agricultural Energy Grant in 2023 and installed a 13.53kW solar system on the roof of their retail building, offsetting 100% of the energy consumed for this local agribusiness in Coventry.
The 2024 URI Cooperative Extension Energy Fellows visited OER this past week to learn from staff about energy programs and policies advancing Rhode Island's clean energy future!

Keep it coming! Rhode Island along with Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) NH Department of Environmental Services Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources and Maine Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future have been awarded $450 million from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency . Funding will go towards launching the New England Heat Pump Accelerator, a program designed to make heat pumps more accessible, reduce air pollution, and help RI meets its Act on Climate mandates.
