Texas Christian University is still taking applications for its two-year MA program. The deadline closes April 19, 2021. Please note we are waiving the GRE test scores requirement this year.

All accepted students receive a full tuition waiver, a competitive stipend, and health insurance. We also provide additional funding for national and international research travel. Our students have used these grants to travel to New York, Los Angeles, Mexico, Cuba, Italy, France, Switzerland, and elsewhere.

Our MA program prides itself on the “museum experience." Fort Worth is an especially rich area for the study of art history, as it contains three major art museums, all with close relationships with our program and faculty: the Kimbell Art Museum (https://www.kimbellart.org), the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (http://themodern.org), and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (http://www.cartermuseum.org), the Dallas Museum of Art (https://dma.org), and the Nasher Sculpture Center (https://www.nashersculpturecenter.org). Many seminars are organized around temporary exhibitions and meet regularly at the museums. All our students take a seminar on art museums, earn valuable professional experience by completing a museum internship, and frequently have the opportunity to curate an exhibition in TCU’s Moudy Gallery. The most recent exhibition was a section of work by our School of Art faculty (https://calendar.tcu.edu/event/interpreting_renditions_of_nature_community_and_self_featuring_selected_works_by_tcu_school_of_art_faculty #.YGObiC1h2X1), which went on to be displayed at the Moncrief Cancer Institute. We also takes students on an annual trip; in the past we have visited Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles.

Many of our graduates have gone on to work in museums, while others have gone on to receive the PhD in art history and are now teaching at the college level.
You can read more about our program and faculty on our website: https://finearts.tcu.edu/art/academics/areas-of-study/art-history and our page (https://www.facebook.com/TCUArtHistory).

Congratulations to Dr. Peacock on the recent publication of her book, "Heroines, Harpies, and Housewives: Imaging Women of Consequence in the Dutch Golden Age."

From the publisher:

"In Heroines, Harpies, and Housewives, Martha Moffitt Peacock provides a novel interpretive approach to the artistic practice of Imaging Women of Consequence in the Dutch Golden Age. From the beginnings of the new Republic, visual celebrations of famous heroines who crossed gender boundaries by fighting in the Revolt against Spain or by distinguishing themselves in arts and letters became an essential and significant cultural tradition that reverberated throughout the long seventeenth century. This collective memory of consequential heroines who equaled, or outshone, men is frequently reflected in empowering representations of other female archetypes: authoritative harpies and noble housewives. Such enabling imagery helped in the structuring of gender norms that positively advanced a powerful female identity in Dutch society."
