Dear International Students,

The language documentation research group is conducting an initial survey of language diversity and language attitudes on campus. We won’t be publishing any of the results of this survey, and the goal is just to get information on broad strokes about both diversity and attitudes on campus that can feed future research projects that can serve the BYU community. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. We are getting a lot of responses from traditional students and are hoping to get a more balanced demographic representation.

Impact Investing Association 09/16/2020

All,

Some people think that doing good in the world and making money can’t go together — but they haven’t heard of impact investing. Impact investing is venture capital investing in startups that create social or environmental good; it combines profit and impact.

The Impact Investing Association is a new Ballard Center club dedicated to teaching students principles of impact investing — including basic venture capital and impact analysis skills — and creating a network pipeline with impact investing firms to help students place in impact investing internships or understand the path to an impact investing career.

Kurt Brown, a BYU alum and millionaire investor from a young age who recently founded TownSquare Capital Advisors, will be speaking at the kickoff activity of the Impact Investing Association next Thursday, September 17, from 6:00-7:00pm via Zoom. He will discuss his career experiences and his role in pioneering and advocating for impact investing across the globe.

Students interested in attending the Impact Investing Association kickoff event with Kurt Brown, please follow this link (https://bit.ly/IIAkickoff) to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday night.

Best regards,

Nick Van Slooten
Impact Investing Association President

Dear Students & Scholars,
This is from the Utah State Tax Commission website:

The IRS has automatically extended the deadline for 2019 individual and corporate returns and payments to July 15, 2020, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. See this news release on the IRS website regarding the federal extension.

The Utah State Tax Commission, after consultation with the Governor, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House, intends to follow the federal government’s tax filing and payment actions in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We are waiting to review the official instructions from the IRS to make certain that we align properly with the federal requirements.
