Wait until you hear about this brand new class we added to the Maker track for Movers+Makers this year!

"Choreographing for Emotional Impact: How to tell a compelling story through dance" with Liz Dibble will be a phenomenal class for helping choreographers create the impact they would like to have on their audiences. Read the full class description below and if you are interested, hurry and register for one of the last few spots in these composition classes on June 7-8!

Dance is a universal language, and the body is a repository of lived experience. In this class we will explore how to connect with an audience emotionally through staged dance work. How can we connote universal experiences through design principles of communication? How can we use gesture and movement structure to evoke specific emotion? What stories are you trying to tell and are those stories connecting with lay audience members? How can you coach your dancers to connect with and communicate your message more clearly? We will investigate these questions through movement, observation, improvisation, and written exercises. Bring a notebook, pen, questions, and curiosity.

Register for these composition classes (aka The Maker Track at Movers+Makers) before the spots fill or by June 5, whichever comes first! More info here: https://wasatchcontemporary.com/?page_id=2994

She is an incredible teacher and choreographer (she just won Best of State in Choreography AND the Rocky Mountain Choreography Festival again!) so you do not want to miss this class or the many others during this professional dance and choreography intensive. Applications must be in by May 22 - don't delay!

What have past participants said about Movers+Makers???

"The performance aspect of the intensive was a major draw for me. The intimate setting of the rehearsals created a sense of connection and allowed us to witness the choreographic process firsthand."

"I loved getting to learn from a different teacher for each class! I felt like I learned so much in such a short amount of time."

"I enjoyed how genuine and kind the teachers were. I felt challenged, but also grace for where I was currently at."

We are still accepting Mover applications through May 22 - don't miss the chance to come together with diverse dancers from all over to train, rehearse and perform! Visit https://wasatchcontemporary.com/?page_id=3007 for more info!

Dancing through life with purpose and poise

We're bringing back a favorite class from years past - "Unique Spaces, Places and Props" with Jocelyn Smith on the Maker Track! There are just a small handful of spots left in the Maker classes - snag your spot ASAP! https://wasatchcontemporary.com/?page_id=2994

"Unique Spaces, Places, and Props" is a dance-making class that approaches the creative process through the lens of space. It offers diverse environments for creators to problem-solve and choreograph micro, site-specific pieces to be shared and performed for each other. Additionally, the course delves into the art of incorporating props, discovering profound connections between movement and inanimate objects.

Guess who else is teaching on the Movers Track this year?!

Jamie Myers will be joining us to teach a killer Modern Technique class - read more about it below and get yourself registered by May 22 for two days of classes, rehearsals, and performance on June 7-8!

This release style modern class will explore dynamic balance, falling off axis, grounding, beautiful weight shifts, & momentum weaving in and out of the floor. We'll warm the body quickly, play, incorporate floorwork, then fly across the floor and learn a combo! Get ready to sweat & hopefully laugh —let’s not take ourselves *too* seriously all the time!

Brand new class on the Makers Track this year!

The incredibly talented Roxanne Gray will be teaching "Multidisciplinary Collaboration in the Arts" for our Makers at Movers+Makers on June 7-8 this year. Read more about this amazing class below. If you want to take 5 phenomenal composition classes (and you are at least 18yrs.+ with 3+ yrs. choreographic experience), grab one of the last few spots in the Makers classes before they are gone! Link below!

This class will explore successful collaborative approaches through embodied practice and community conversation. As dance artists, how can we collaborate with artists of other disciplines to create rich, meaningful work? We will discuss consensus-making, empathy, accountability, power, and effective communication. While many creatives are expected and interested in working collaboratively, we are often unfamiliar with how to approach a collaboration. As a result, many artists rely solely on instinct without any intentional grounding to help facilitate a successful collaboration or challenge the impulses that may be counterproductive to the collaborative endeavor. This class will support the student’s readiness to meet a growing professional expectation to work collaboratively and lead collaborative processes. We will practice these approaches through group discussion and embodied exercises. Bring a notebook and a willingness to connect!
