Our mission is to prevent and reduce alcohol, ma*****na, to***co, and prescription drug misuse among youth living in Utah County.
Thank you for joining us for Red Ribbon Week and helping to address the storm of youth substance misuse! How did you get involved with Red Ribbon Week this year? We hope you found our daily posts informative and valuable. Remember, we're here to provide you with continued support and resources.
As you enjoy spook-tacular fun and sweet treats, remember that the sweetest treat of all is living a drug-free life! Happy Halloween from your friends at the Utah Valley Drug Prevention Coalition!
Red Ribbon Week Day 9: Family Dinner!
Eating together builds strong connections and encourages positive behaviors. Children who share family meals regularly are more likely to exhibit respect and fairness and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors like substance misuse and violence. Before heading out for Halloween festivities, take time for a family dinner to strengthen those bonds!

Red Ribbon Week Day 8: Compliment Day!
A genuine compliment can have a significant impact, boosting confidence and acknowledging hard work. It brightens the recipient's day and reflects well on the giver. By celebrating achievements and appreciating others, we can build stronger, healthier relationships and improve youth outcomes. Spread positivity by leaving sticky notes or cards with compliments for those around you.

Red Ribbon Week Day 7: Attitude First Aid Kit!
Build resilience by creating an "Attitude First Aid Kit." Encourage youth to fill a small box with items that uplift and support them, like photos, positive notes, meaningful quotes, reminders of achievements, and favorite songs. This kit can help them bounce back from challenges- take out the box when needed.

Red Ribbon Week Day 6: Community Appreciation Day!
Expressing gratitude to local service workers helps youth feel more connected to their community. Create and deliver thank you cards, flyers, or posters to show appreciation for community members like the police and fire departments, public libraries, grocery stores, and more. These can be signed individually or as a group- small gestures make a big impact!

Red Ribbon Week Day 5: Discover a New Hobby!
Building resilience in youth equips them to handle life's challenges, including resisting drug use. A great way to strengthen their resilience is by boosting their self-esteem and confidence. Encourage them to explore a new hobby or activity! Help them brainstorm ideas and let them know you're there to support them. With your encouragement, they'll feel more confident to try new things and thrive!

Red Ribbon Week Day 4: Neighborhood Party!
It takes a supportive community to help children grow into confident and successful adults. Creating a safe, healthy environment for them to thrive starts with building strong connections, including with your neighbors. Today, host a neighborhood party or BBQ to strengthen those bonds and foster a sense of community!

Red Ribbon Week Day 3: Family Movie Night!
Strong family bonds are a key protective factor against risky behaviors in children of all ages. Strengthen those connections by spending quality time together. It's Friday- the perfect night for a family movie! Pick a film, grab your favorite snacks, and enjoy a cozy evening with your loved ones.

Red Ribbon Week Day 2: No One Eats Alone!

Red Ribbon Week Day 1: Conversation Jar!
Building close relationships between parents and children is key to preventing youth drug use. A great way to start meaningful conversations is by creating a "Conversation Jar" for a fun, engaging activity! Have both parents and children write a mix of fun and serious questions on slips of paper, place them in a jar, and take turns drawing and answering them together!

Stay strong, stay focused, and have an amazing school year!
Research suggests that young people may be more likely to initiate drug use for the first time during the summer months.* More free time and outdoor recreational events, such as music festivals where drug use is common, can influence these behaviors.
Help protect your kids this summer by spending quality time together and talking to them about the risks of drug misuse!

Talk to your kids today about the risks of underage ma*****na use. Visit graymattersutah.org for more information!
YOU ARE THE BIGGEST REASON YOUR KIDS CHOOSE NOT TO DRINK UNDERAGE! Through healthy boundary setting (clear rules & expectations), monitoring (asking who they're with & when they'll be home), and bonding (spending time) with your child, you can decrease the chance of your child drinking underage. YOU have the power to create positive change! Learn how to be empowered by visiting parentsempowered.org!
