Thank you to everyone who voiced an opinion on this issue, and thank you to the council for this vote! We look forward to maintaining the level of library services you've come to know and love.

After hundreds of emails and hours of public comment, the Council motioned for staff to prepare the budget to include an increase to the library portion of the city property tax.

The Council will vote to adopt the budget on August 20th.
This would give the library $448,254, approximately an extra dollar a month from the average homeowner.

Thank you to everyone who shared your opinion with the Council. You can watch a recording of the public hearing on our YouTube channel.

If you follow us on social media you can't have missed it: The Truth in Taxation hearing discussing a possible increase in funding for the library is tonight (August 13, 6:00 PM, City Council Chambers), and we urge you to share your thoughts with the City Council on this important matter.

If you've somehow missed all the posts we've shared on this topic, here's months' worth of discussion in a few sentences: after over 20 years of not asking for a tax rate adjustment, the Library needs additional funding. This funding is to cover operating costs and necessary building maintenance. We have made about $350,000 in cuts, but we are still in need of about $450,000 to maintain our current level of library services. We are asking for an increase of about $12 per year per household (that's $1 a month, or one copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Amazon).

If you think we're on the right track with the collections, services, and operating hours we offer, tell the City Council so. If you disagree with this ask, that is also feedback they're interested in. The Library is for you, and you should have a say in how it's funded.
