Meet Eliza!
Eliza works at the Family History Library! She’s a research assistant for Joe Everett, currently working on the GIACR (German Immigrants in American Church Records) Project. This project aims to identify immigrants’ specific hometowns, as many records simply state that individuals are from Germany. Although she’s only worked in the library for a couple weeks, she loves that what she does is meaningful & is helping people find their families.
Eliza loves books & loves exploring the library to find new things, and she would encourage everyone to do the same!
The brick exhibit is nearing it's end. Curator Trevor Alvord shares some thoughts.
We hope everyone gets a chance to see it before it goes.
Brick Upon Brick Final Week | Special Collections Blog | L. Tom Perry Special Collections | HBLL Brick Upon Brick Final Week July 16, 2024 by Trevor Alvord The BYU Library would like to thank all those who have visited the Brick Upon Brick exhibit so far. The exhibit will officially close at the end of the day on Saturday, July 20th. Library hours can be found here. Until then, we invite you to...
Meet Andrew!
Andrew works in the receiving department and, in his own words, does a little bit of everything! You can count on him (and his coworkers) for receiving and delivering mail, distributing supplies, and doing the occasional handyman job.
He has worked here for over 2 years and loves that the library, like his job, has a little bit of everything.
Meet James!
James works as a Computer Technician in the IT department which means any time a computer or a printer is having problems, he’s the one to call! Although he’s only worked in the library for a few months, he loves that he’s learning things that apply to his interests and help him solve problems he runs into on personal projects.
The thing he loves most about the library are the people & all their unique, niche interests.
Meet Sonya!
Sonya works at the Science & Engineering help desk on Level 2. Here she provides any information you might need about the 2nd floor AND helps patrons check out items like calculators, chargers, white boards & books!
If she could tell patrons one thing she would say, “Use the resources while you’re here!! We have so much to offer—we’re one of the best libraries in the nation!”
The power is out in most of the library. There is power in the north section only. Expect limited access and limited service. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
Plan ahead, next Monday, the 25th, the library will close an hour early at 11:00 pm. There will be some late night construction so it will be quiet when you return in the morning.
See if you can spot which buildings are missing from this classic video of campus.
Question: What are you doing this afternoon?
Answer: Mini Golf in the library from 1:00 until 8:00.
Bonus: There is a free classic movie, “Wagon Master” at 7:00.
Thank you to The The Daily Universe for the great story.
Special Collections enriches BYU education - The Daily Universe The Harold B. Lee Library's Special Collections not only house historical items, but also the stories of how the items became historically significant.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. This year's table had a record number of thank you notes, 926! Enjoy your holidays.
Our security team alerted us that a contractor had propped open an emergency exit and patrons were trying to use it to leave the library. They asked for an "Emergency Exit Only" sign and we responded immediately. When we arrived at the exit we found 14 signs in place. Clearly they weren't working.
Now we have 15 signs.
Problem solved!
Seriously, don't use Emergency Exits if it isn't an emergency.
Also, check out the hand painted signs from the 1960s. The best view is outside the library (use the main doors) on the east side.
Celebrate World Digital Preservation Day by playing a game one of our librarians created back in 1987.
Alert: Playing library related games might inspire you to become a librarian. I hear that's how things work
Murder in the Stacks (1987, pre-release version) : HackenPute, Richard Hacken : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive This is a text-based, interactive fiction game written by a librarian at BYU's Library in 1985. It takes place at the Library circa the 80s.You are a world...
Surprise, one of our elevators decided to do a Monsters, Inc. cosplay. We suggest giving it some space and using one of the six other elevators.

TONIGHT from 6-9 PM, Library Quest will commence. Everyone make sure to dress up like a medieval character and prepare to go back in time!
Join us TONIGHT at 7:00 PM in the Alice Louise Reynolds Auditorium on the 1st Floor for a showing of “To Catch a Thief”!
Cary Grant and Grace Kelly star in the story of a retired burglar who is accused of returning to a life of crime. The only way for him to clear his name is to catch the actual thief.
You don’t want to miss this Alfred Hitchcock classic!
Welcome back students! Stop by the library at 11:30 to grab a donut (we've got thousands). Meet the University Librarian and maybe a special guest.
Good morning. Construction is going well, and everyone is looking forward to welcoming all the students next week. See you then.
For the record: vinyl records available to check out from HBLL - The Daily Universe The Harold B. Lee Library has nearly 70,000 vinyl records for students to check out.
A little good news from The Princeton Review.
Thanks to everyone who shared nice things about the library.
This photo from circa 1999 looks oddly familiar right now.
J. Kirk Richards is installing his work "For They Will Be Comforted" on level 3. Stop by to enjoy it.
