SENIOR ALERT
This is Lucy (born Aug 2014). She was adopted as a kitten and returned to us last year as other cats in the house were picking on her. Lucy came to us with a thyroid disease but was unable to tolerate any of the medications or foods for it. She was declining fast but our veterinarian decided to remove her thyroid to see if it would save her life. It worked! She went from under 5lb to this gorgeous girl. Lucy is shy. She has her moments of wanting to be sweet but gets nervous, overstimulated, and may swat. She does have a sensitive stomach so keeping the same diet is important. She likes treats, even the Churu type. She may be more of a roommate for a new owner but she deserves a warm bed and love on her terms for the rest of her life. She is spayed, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. She does not need any medications or further care for her thyroid issue. She can live with other cats as long as they are passive. Children can frighten her but teens would be okay. No dogs. Lucy has been her for over 400 days and it is about time that she find a forever home to spend her final days!! If you think you can give her that special place and lots of love, then go to our website Woodstockcats.org/adopt and fill out an adoption application. Lets get this senior gal a home

Our volunteers had a great time at in Dayville today. We met alot of our friends and supporters that stopped by to talk to us. We had a special visitor stop by we want you to meet. We want you to meet Otis. He came in with his cat mom and family. We could tell by the way he was held that Otis cat mom really loved him and wanted what’s best for him. We talked about his food and what to feed and not to feed him. We talked about getting him neutered and the benefits of getting him fixed. We explained that there were programs out there to assist her and she was very excited as she wants to get him neutered.
We then met her mom and she was telling us that the mother cat showed up in her yard as a stray and she took her in. What she did not know is that the mother cat was pregnant. She gave birth to 3 babies (one being Otis). Her next step is to get the mom fixed so she will never have babies again.
We will be honest, we have really had a rough week. So many calls for help it has been overwhelming. Seeing Otis and meeting the family was very gratifying. We may never hear from Otis or the family again, but we know he will get the best of care

This little lady is Pinky. She found herself born to a stray and got pregnant at a young age. Born 04/2022, she raised two beautiful kittens with us. She was nervous about us but has come so far while being with us. She warms up when she trusts you and looks for attention but can be nervous too. She should go to a home with another cat to give her a playmate and confidence. She gets along well with her shelter mates. She is a nervous girl and does spend time hiding. Her confidence will come with time and having another cat that can show her the ropes. She does have a special diet. She had to have intestinal surgery a few months ago due to being impacted so her diet will need to be continued for the rest of her life to prevent further constipation issues. She has done fantastic since her surgery. She would do well with teens or older, no children for her otherwise. She is spayed, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. Pinky has been with us for over 450 days and it is time she gets a home of her own. To adopt her go to our website: woodstockcats.org/adopt. Lets find this sweet girl a home.

Beautiful and unique markings on this playful girl .
Extra points if you can see what really makes her markings unique!
An interesting fact about these patterned cats is that they have big personalities! Anyone else have a cowcat? Post a pic of yours!

UPDATE: Neoma is home with us and her two precious babies. They are small but mom has all the right instincts, and plenty of milk! Mom is sore today. This little family is unfortunately not out of the woods. The babies are on the smaller side and after a traumatic birth, there is a higher risk of them passing. Mom is not out of the woods yet either. We will be following up with our local vet this week for her. She is at risk for infection and electrolyte imbalances. She had bloodwork at VEG and she was doing alright so far. All money earned for her will continue to go to her. She will still need more bloodwork, spay, vaccines, and anything else that may come up now. We need you to keep this tiny family in your hearts as our Paws family keeps fighting for her, and hopes she has the strength to get through. We know how strong these mamas are so we know she can do it. Her care will continue through Quinebaug Valley Veterinary Hospital if people want to donate directly to them.

This was not how we thought we would be spending this evening, but we have this poor girl at Veterinary Emergency Group. Remember those cats that walked into our shelter a couple weeks ago after being abandoned? One was missing her babies and one was pregnant? Tonight this girl went into labor and ended up with babies that were stuck coming out. No matter how much she tried, she could not pass the kittens by herself. She was able to deliver some with assistance but one would not pass. After speaking with the veterinarian at VEG and confirming we had done all we could possibly do to help her (they talked us through some things first), she needed to be rushed in to help her deliver and get some IV medications as she is completely exhausted. We are currently at VEG with her and need funds. We have been struggling to pay our bills but she needed to go. We have named her Neoma (like Naomi). It means new beginnings. She will never have to go through another pregnancy and delivery. We have no idea what this trip will cost. We know she has an IV, medication, x-ray to check for kittens, and unsure if she will need anything more. Please help us cover this bill for her. We adore this girl and we just keep promising her that she will never have to do this again. She most likely would've died if she had been left outside and didn't have people caring for her tonight. Here is to her new beginning. Neoma is a fighter. She can do this ❤️

Lets meet two more of our cats that need a home!!!

Apple Crisp & Ricotta Pie are sisters born August 2022. They were born and raised in foster care. They are both friendly girls and playful but prefer the more low-key life. An active household would be stressful for them. When their routine changes, they may fight (like sisters can) for about 3 days, and then they are fine. They love each other and spend most of their time with each other overall. They will need someone patient to get them to come out of their shell and bond with their new human(s). They do well with cats and dogs, and children 8yo+. They do not care to be held but are playful and sweet and should come out of their shells even more in a home of their own. They are spayed, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. They have been with us for over 700 days and it is time that they find a home of their own. If you are interested in these two sweet girls, please go to our website woodstockcats.org/adopt to fill out an application. Let’s find these girls a home!!!

How about these two cuties!! Meet Pozole and Paprika

Pozole (white & tabby, male, short hair plush, born 03/2023) and Paprika (calico tabby, female, long hair, born 03/2023) were born and raised in foster care and are ready for adoption. They are friendly, like attention, and will always come for a treat. They like to be up high so a tower would be great. Paprika does have an eye that waters off and on and may require eye ointment at times. This could be for her whole life or could change as she grows and changes. They are good with cats, should do well with most children, and are young enough to get used to dogs. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. Interested?? then go to our website and fill out an application Woodstockcats.org/adopt They are just waiting for the perfect home to call their own

Lets meet two more of our cats that are looking for a home.

Meet Vermicelli (female, black & white) and Holstilini (male, more white than black). They were born 8/1/2022 to a mom that had been abandoned outside. They came in sick but have done fantastic since then. They are more shy which means many overlook them. They are playful and friendly, but would prefer the quieter life in a home. They do great with other cats. They should do well with older kids or teens. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. They have been with us 694 days and their adoption fee has been sponsored to try to help find them the best home possible. To apply go to our website woodstockcats.org/adopt.

We are so excited that we have had interest in Explora and Juliette. Fingers crossed that they will have a home soon. So Lets keep it going!!

Let us introduce two more!!
We are Wentworth (Tiger- Boy) & Moonbeam (White & Black- Boy) (born 2021). We are shy brothers who love to play. We are on the timid side and don’t really like to be picked up and held. We do love our pets though!
Wentworth does love to come and snuggle whether on the couch or in bed. Moonbeam is more reserved and will come for pets while you are in bed. These are sweet boys who need a family that will have patience with them and allow them to come out of their shell more. They are good with other cats, no experience with dogs. They would do best in a home with teens or no children. They are neutered, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. The adoption fee is being waived for an approved adopter. These two have been hanging out at their foster home for over 1000 days 😱😱and it is about time they think (we do as well) that they need a home of their own. We have waived the adoption fee for these two as we know the perfect home awaits them. Is it you? If so go to our website woodstockcats.org/adopt and fill out an application. Lets find these two a home!!

This pretty lady is Juliette. She is estimated to be born 10/2020. She was one of the thousands of cats that get abandoned each year. Thankfully there was a good Samaritan who was caring for her. The good Samaritan saw her one day and realized that something was wrong and took her to a vet who called us to see if we could help. She came to us with the injured eye. We suspect that she was hit by a car because she also has a crooked tail and her back end shows signs of discomfort. She has been evaluated for her limp. She may end up on monthly injections for her hind end. She is a pretty laid back girl overall. She wants attention but can get more spicy if she wants you to stop petting her. She is overall tolerant and we can see her loving to sit around on the couch or bed with someone. She seems to tolerate the other cats around but will grump at them if they bother her too much. She is spayed, vaccinated, and FIV/FeLV negative. Her adoption fee is being waived for an approved adopter. She deserves a place to call home If you are interested in this sweet girl, please go to our website woodstockcats.org/adopt to fill out an application. Juliette's story was submitted to NBC Connecticut clear the the shelter event. Tune in to see if you see her

Binx is one of the senior cats that need a new home and the owner is getting nervous as she has to move in September and cannot take him. He did have someone visit him, but they said he was too skiddish. Listen, that is going to be expected, he has been with his mom his whole life and does not know anyone else. Does he think something is going on, we are sure he does. It will take time and patience for him to acclimate to his new home. Do you know what else is good about doing this vs going into a shelter? The owner can keep in touch with the adopters. We hear this often, that the previous owner has comfort knowing that there cat is ok.
Lets find binx a home

08/16/2024

Senior cats have always had a soft spot in all of our volunteers hearts and when we get a call asking for assistance with an older cat we are very sensitive to the people calling. A senior cat does not belong in a shelter. It is bad enough that they are being taking away from the only family they have even known but they do not do well in a shelter. Most Seniors are usually an "only child" in a quiet environment. Put them in a busy noisy shelter, they are scared, they get stressed, they get sick and shut down. And lets face it with the amount of "free kittens" out there they are not going to be adopted soon. This is why we post them looking for homes. There are times we do not have many and then we get an influx. We will be posting them, along with ours, and we want everyone to take a minute to read their story and see if you know of anyone (maybe you) who might be interested. If not share, so we can find them a home.
This also brings up another important part of owning a cat (or any animal), please ensure you have a plan that in the event something happens to you or a loved one, they have a safe place to go. It does not matter how old you are, things happen. We are working on providing info for planned giving and estate planning so if you choose Paws, we will ensure your cat is cared for in the event something happens. Until then, lets try and find the seniors we were contacted about a home. Watch for our courtesy posts
