As an additional step in creating a safe and respectful sport environment for all, the AKC Board of Directors approved the following educational requirements policy and recommendations. If the AKC records indicate a judge attended the required AKC Obedience/Rally Judges’ Educational Seminar on or after January 1, 2016, the Companion Events Department is granting an automatic seminar extension. AKC RACH RACH Invitational
The first inaugural AKC RACH Invitational will be held in Orlando, Florida in December 2024 at the Orange County Convention Center. This will be a two-day event to be held on Thursday, December 12, and Friday, December 13, 2024.
This event is for RACH titled dogs only. The dog must have earned the RACH title on or before July 30, 2024. The top six dogs in each breed will be invited based on the number of triple qualifying scores earned during the qualifying period. The qualifying period is September 1, 2023 – July 30, 2024. After careful review, it was determined that extending invitations to this first RACH Invitational event based on the number of TQs earned during the qualifying period (rather than the number of RACH points) would allow the greatest opportunity for participation among both dogs who have previously earned the RACH and those who are currently working toward that title and accumulating points.

More Information about the Displaceable High Jump!
The Board VOTED to modify the Obedience Regulations Chapter 1, Section 34 and the Rally Regulations Chapter 1, Section 36 to change the design and construction of the high jump to allow displaceable panels. In order to not cause an undue burden on event giving clubs, this transition must be completed by July 1, 2025. Clubs may use a high jump with displaceable panels before then if they should choose to do so. Please see the attached PDF for more information. If food is in the ring or the dog eliminates while in the ring for judging, the team will receive a non-qualifying score. If either of these issues occur during awards, the score is not changed from qualifying to non-qualifying. At a recent event there was some confusion and a misunderstanding. AKC RACH INVITATIONAL
Special Announcement! The first inaugural AKC RACH Invitational will be held in Orlando, Florida in December 2024 at the Orange County Convention Center. Exact dates and performance event details are being finalized.
The qualifying period for this inaugural event is September 1, 2023 – July 30, 2024.
The top four dogs in each breed will be invited based on the number of RACH points earned during the qualifying period, and the dog must have earned at least one triple qualifying score during that same period.

AKC Juniors Showcase - Orlando, FL
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17, 2023
There will be two days of AKC Rally® and two days of AKC Obedience. To be eligible, Juniors must be under 18 years of age on the first day of the event. AKC will record all qualifying scores on the dog’s record, and Juniors will receive credit on their records for the AKC Junior Recognition program for Participation, Qualifying Scores, Class Placements, High Scoring Dog, High Combined Scores, and for putting a title on a dog.
The Classic Event – What is it and How Does it Run?
“The Classic” is an obedience tournament event in which each team shows multiple times over the course of two days to earn scores toward a cumulative total. Every point you save counts in this tournament. Rather than an NQ for a failed exercise, only the points for that exercise are deducted. Make every exercise count, be your best self, that will help your dog be his/her best self!
Novice Class entries: Regular Novice entries will show twice both days. Preferred entries will show twice on Saturday and once on Sunday.
• Regular Novice class entries will perform the individual exercises twice on Saturday in two different rings. On Sunday, you will perform the individual exercises once, then report to a different ring to complete the Group Exercise. You will be eligible to perform the Group Exercise regardless of the individual exercise performances.
• Preferred Novice entries will perform the Novice individual exercises twice on Saturday in the two different rings (no Stay – Sit or Down exercise on Saturday). On Sunday, Preferred Novice entries will perform the Preferred Novice individual exercises once, which will include the Stay – Sit or Down exercise.
Open: You will show in three rings over the course of two days.
Utility: You will show in three rings over the course of two days.
Masters: You will show in six rings over the course of two days.
The judging program will state the ring numbers, starting time and list your armband #.

Those of you who are judging Rally, nothing has changed regarding walkthroughs. We are hearing rumors that some of you are combining walkthroughs for different class levels, or intend to. No, please do not do that. Yes, we floated the idea out to you for input, but the vast majority of replies, from judges, were not in favor of that idea at this time. Separate walkthroughs are to be listed for different classes, and you cannot combine walkthroughs for Advanced/Intermediate or Choice/Master. Thank you! The Companion Events Team
