We’re thrilled to welcome Rebecca Jones as the new Communications Director for North Carolina Space Grant, the Water Resources Research Institute, and North Carolina Sea Grant!

Rebecca brings experience in science communication and program coordination, as well as a personal connection to North Carolina as she works to enhance our programs and expand our reach across the state.

Reminder: NASA's spring internship deadline is tomorrow!

NASA Internship Programs - NASA NASA’s internship programs provide training, mentoring, and career development opportunities while working with the best science, engineering, financial, information technology and business minds in the world.

In June 2024, NC Space Education Ambassadors from Crew 4 and earlier crews visited NASA Langley Research Center, connecting classroom learning with NASA research! Highlights include Earth and cloud science workshops, tours of the wind tunnel, and visits to research facilities like the Makerspace Lab.

NASA Langley Welcomes NC Space Education Ambassadors In June 2024, NC Space Education Ambassadors (NCSEA) from Crew 4 wrapped up a year of NASA mission-based professional development with a special trip to NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Several NCSEA from Crews 1-3 also participated.

If you are a STEM educator or graduate student passionate about climate change, check out this year-long research opportunity with NASA, the Climate Change Research Initiative! Contribute to NASA’s work in exploration and discovery, lead research teams, and engage in community STEM events.

To finish our summer intern series is Alex Duggleby of NC State Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, who worked at Collier Aerospace contributing to structural engineering and stress analysis projects throughout his internship. Congratulations again to all of our great interns!

The second Collier Aerospace intern, Karthik Kannan of NC State Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, said the internship has been an opportunity to expand his proficiency in both the computer science and aerospace engineering domains. Only one more intern to go!

During his time with Collier Aerospace, Sachet Patil of NC State Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering worked to gain a more complete understanding of engineering and computer science principles and concepts. Stay tuned for the two remaining Collier interns as we finish summer intern highlights!

Brooke Turner of NC State Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering spent her summer with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center working with and learning about test procedures and lab developments occurring in the optics branch!

Kicking off our final week of intern highlights is Diane Ripollone, a teacher at Cardinal Gibbons High School working with the My NASA Data group at NASA Langley Research Center! She hopes to share effective practices from the experience in the educational setting.

The NASA Accessibility Workshop has lifted off at NASA JSC, fueled by ND, NC, and SC Space Grants and Space Center Houston! This dynamic workshop is dedicated to crafting inclusive space education experiences that unlock the potential for all learners. Educators will explore cutting-edge accessibility strategies and enjoy exclusive JSC facility tours. Eight dedicated educators from Wilson, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Wake, and Cumberland Counties, along with the Eastern NC School for the Deaf, are in attendance and represent NCSG’s commitment to empowering diverse learners.
