As we grapple with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today regarding presidential immunity, we remain committed to the work of safeguarding democracy so that everyone, including communities that are often disenfranchised, will have a chance to cast their vote.

Unitarian Universalist congregations, including one near you, are places where we can make meaning together and build community in the most pivotal times. Find your people. Circle up. Flood the system with hope and commitment.

Thank you to all the UUPF members who volunteered to come out on June 2nd for our first Spring Cleaning event. We were able to clean all the windows inside and out, reorganize and clean the baby room, sweep up all the cobwebs off the ceiling and walls, do some general cleaning outside the building, and w**d out some of the overgrown irises out front. Once again, thank you to everyone who participated and a special thanks to Ken for showing up early and making coffee!

John Pavlovitz The Pausing and the Pressing On - Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship 05/19/2024

The Pausing and the Pressing On "Should I stay or should I go now?" The Clash asked this question in 1981 and we're still asking it today. As we move through each day we are surrounded by need, by pain, by things that break our hearts and call us to move. Though some things merit our urgency and should propel us into immediate action, we can't be in perpetual motion....

John Pavlovitz Caretakers of Beauty - Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship 04/21/2024

We won't be here forever. Sadly, we are not a permanent presence. But that doesn't mean our lives aren't incredibly meaningful: to those we love, to those we cross paths with briefly, and to a nation and planet that we get to steward during our time here. We have inherited this place from those who came before us and we will leave a legacy to those who follow. The beautiful things are in our hands.

Wake County Public Schools Passes Safer Gun Storage Resolution

In an ongoing effort to keep students safe both at school and at home, on March 19, 2024 the Wake County School Board unanimously passed the Safer Gun Storage Resolution. Read the resolution here { https://www.wcpss.net/Page/57646}. Members from local law enforcement, Be SMART volunteers including Melanie Mottershead and Elizabeth Norval attended the meeting in full support of this resolution. This is the first of many steps to keep our kids safe both at home and at school since guns are now the leading cause of death for American children.

Melanie Mottershead gave her first Be SMART presentation to UUPF in 2018. Be SMART is a public education campaign encouraging gun owners to secure their guns to keep kids safer by preventing unauthorized access to fi****ms (besmartforkids.org). Since 2019 Melanie has been urging the Wake County Public School Board of Education to pass a resolution directing staffers in Wake County Schools to regularly and consistently provide families with information and resources on the importance of secure gun storage. She has met with several School Board Representatives, given public comments at School Board meetings, and also presented “Be SMART: a conversation about kids, guns, and safety” to the School Board and several district meetings.

Be SMART encourages gun owners and non-gun owners alike to “Be SMART” and follow these simple steps.

S – Secure the guns in your home and vehicles.
M – Model responsible behavior around guns
A – Ask other adults about how they secure their guns before visiting their home
R – Recognize the role of guns in su***de
T – Tell your peers to be smart.

Reverend Rebecca Suzik The Art of the Sacred Yes and the Sacred No - Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship 03/03/2024

No! Interfaith and Interspiritual minister Becky Suzik will share stories, readings and insights into the sacred art of decision making, when—if done with intention—might help you live with greater meaning, purpose, and--dare we say—joy?! Will you watch this… Yes or NO?

John Pavlovitz Love is a Four Letter Word - Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship 02/22/2024

Love. We use that word all the time: We love our partners. We love our kids. We love the beach. We love cheeseburgers. We love It's easy to misuse love, to overuse it, to forget how powerful a word it is and just what it requires from us. Let's talk about love: about what it means, what it asks of us, and how we love hateful people.

Rev. Pattty Hanneman Behind the Goddess Veil - Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship 12/03/2023

Standing on a pedestal in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, a statue of the goddess Isis lifts her veil to reveal just a glimpse of herself. The sculpture - Nature Unveiling Herself To Nature - reminds us that the mysteries of life that sustain us call for curiosity, reverence, and celebration. This morning we reflect on the wisdom and art of being able to say, "I don't know".
