Canoe Camp
Canoe Camp ran from 1974 - 2014 on the Sacramento River.
Campers set up base camp at Gateway Community Church and make daily canoe trips on the Sacramento River between Redding and Red Bluff every summer in June.
It has been a Canoe Camp special mini camp/reunion this last week of June 2023. It’s been 9 years since the last time Canoe Camp happened. Special thanks to Lance and Amy Kilpatrick for hosting and making hamburger night, and then taco night happen at their house.
We had the original canoes, original life jackets and paddles, and even sack lunches, a cookie break and punch in a jug. The only difference was we paddled down the Kankakee River in Illinois, instead of the Sacramento River in California. And Nick Sefton finally made it again to camp since his last time in 2002.
If you were at Canoe Camp in 2005, then here are your memories. We made this back before there were iPhones, before GoPros, and before camcorders had High Definition. But, there were still lots of capsizes and bruises that happened that year.
Also, the 2004 one is up too, on this same channel. It's got some weird music choices, and we didn't fully know what we were doing, but had a lot of fun on river that year too.
We sold both of these long videos on DVD to campers back then, so if you didn't buy one, then your wait paid off and now you can watch these for free on demand.

Canoe Camp doesn't exist anymore, but because it's June, I just felt like posting some photos of a few good memories (specifically from 2008, if anyone is trying to guess).
Thank you to our host church, Gateway Community Church of the Nazarene. Thank you to Derek & Sheree Morrison, Luke & Sandee Broersma, Bud & Rita Englund, Crissy Fonseca, Kathy Hallett, Pat Dunn, Wes Faubel, Ray Wisner, Bob Kilpatrick, Samuel Werrbach, and Bennett and Tye Morrison for being key players in making this week a great week of camp!
Another successful Canoe Camp is in the books!
Check out more pics of camp on Sheree Morrison's page. I am too Smartphone illiterate to know how to get them on the CC page...and don't have enough time to figure it out.

Some highlights from Canoe Camp 2013
It's time to pack! Don't forget a good hat (with a strap is the ultimate), sunblock, sunglasses (cheap in case you "lose" them), sunblock, river shoes with a covered toe,...did I say sunblock?...and Aloe Vera in case you forget to reapply your sunblock!
"The Zone"
Today is shopping day! How many carts will it take? Can we get it all into one van? Thanks, Bennett, for helping with this!
We are used to being on the river this time of year. Camp dates for 2013 are July 7 - 12. There is still room to sign up! sacramentocamps.org is currently taking registrations. Don't miss out!
Pictures from Canoe Camp 2012!
We had a wonderful week on the Sacramento River! Robert Kilpatrick made his debut this week and is gunning for Makinzee Morrison's record of the youngest stern (post Cow's Creek to Balls Ferry @ age 6). Kevin Halpin walked away with Sr. Woodchuck. Ellen Meneely FINALLY got her rookie stern award! Tawni Henry is buying stock in Aloe Vera gel after winning (or losing as the case may be) the Sunburn Award. Derek is grateful the bus worked all week long. Praise God!!!!
Good times with old friends today. Lance, Darren, and Damon came to help us with the double run through Calves, Floyd's, and Cows Creek. It was good because we had 4 capsizes! We all made it back safe and sound to a great BBQ provided by Gateway Community Nazarene. We can't wait to watch the film footage after chapel tonight.
Today's the Day! Let's circle up and hit the road!
