When the Helicopter Crew (Med 4-3) gets stuck in Sacramento and has to be recused by the fixed wing crew (Med 4-4) 🚁✈️😆

PHI Med 4-3 flew 128 Nautical Miles to a Scene call in Lakeview Oregon this afternoon. Med 4-3 was called to assist Search and Rescue for a patient who was involved in a 4-Wheeler accident and ultimately went down a 50ft embankment. The patient had multiple traumatic injuries and was safely rescued and transposed to a neighboring Trauma receiving center.

PHI Redding collaborated with Foothill High School EMT ROP program. We brought the students out to the base and were able to teach them hands on skills, and let them see the aircrafts in action. Thanks for coming out and hanging out with us! Good luck to all the students in their trauma finals coming up!

Today we had a very special visitor at the base. Two years ago on this day, Bailey met Tyler (Flight Medic) and Alex (Flight nurse) for the first time when they flew her to UC Davis after being severely burned. Today is Bailey’s burniversary. Her mom reached out to us and let us know that Bailey wanted to meet her flight heroes, so we made it happen! Unfortunately, Alex no longer lives in the area but we made sure to let her know about Bailey’s gratefulness to her! Thanks for coming to visit us Bailey. You’re welcome any time! It was an honor to see you again and to meet your family. It’s not very often that we get to reconnect with patients, but when we do it is a good reminder about why we show up to work everyday and do what we love to do!

Med 4-3 was busy yesterday with back to back scene calls and an IFT from Mercy Medical Center Redding to UC Davis. It was a beautiful day to fly PHI!

Our youngest fan heard about our job opening and came to the base to submit an application and take a tour. Although he met mostly all the requirements, we told him that he would have to come back in a few years. So the position remains open! Please join me in welcoming one of our newest additions to the Redding CA, base, Flight Nurse David Jenkins. 🚁✈️

David joins the team with 16 years of nursing experience, primarily in the ICU. David has also spent time as a Nursing instructor at one of the local colleges. David is excited about transitioning his career into flight, and is looking forward to the new challenges flight medicine brings to the table. When asked why he chose PHI David said, "PHI has a safety-first culture and is filled with professionals that are always trying to improve their practice." David decided to become a nurse after experiencing his own medical emergency many years ago. David chose to enter the medical field after being a patient, because he saw what a difference healthcare workers can make in their patients' lives. David is happily married and has a son and twin girls. David was born in England, and moved to the United States 20 years ago. David says that he considers the US his home even though he speaks with a funny accent. David's favorite thing to do outside of work is spending time with his family and experiencing everything that that North state has to offer. Welcome David!

Please join me in welcoming one of our newest additions to the Redding CA base, Chelsea Bethel. Chelsea joins the team with eight years of experience in the healthcare field, serving as an Emergency Room RN for the past four. Chelsea has experience working in large hospitals, as well as Critical Access hospitals in the neighboring rural communities. Chelsea is excited to work as a Flight Nurse because it will provide her the opportunity to help serve the community in the area that she grew up in. When asked why Chelsea chose PHI she said, " I chose PHI because the Professionalism and Culture of safety is top notch, as well as the level of care that PHI is committed to bringing their patients." She also loves the added bonus of the spectacular views that flight has to offer. Outside of work Chelsea loves being a mom to her 13-year-old son, as well as her three dogs! Her favorite hobby is baking all things sugary and delicious! Welcome Chelsea!

IFR stands for Instrument flight rules. Rules and regulations established by the FAA to govern flight under conditions in which flight by outside visual reference is not safe. IFR is flying by reference to instruments.
