Another 5 star review today. Before it gets worse, call Birss!

"The DA and my public defender were trying to offer me a felony, a strike, and felony probation for my criminal case! I hired Ryan Birss and once he got a hold of my paperwork it took him less than 24hrs to get me out of jail and get my case dropped to a misdemeanor with informal probation! Thank you so much Ryan."

Three NOT GUILTY verdicts in a row!

06/09/2023

REDDING, CA – On June 6, 2023, Davon Dehughes was found not guilty on all counts in relation to a drug sales case stemming from 2020.

On June 8, 2021 District Attorney Stephanie Bridget gave a statement to KRCR News and prepared a formal News Release where she specifically named Mr. Dehughes as an offender who should not have been released from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

“Dehughes was released from prison on April 9, 2020, despite objections from the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office. A few months after his release, Dehughes was arrested again for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and drug sales,” stated in the District Attorney’s News Release.

It should be noted that even though this case was based solely on speculation and circumstantial evidence, Mr. Dehughes was never given any reasonable offers to resolve his case without involving returning to prison.
2 years after the District Attorney’s office released this statement, Mr. Dehughes was found not guilty of all counts related to this case by a jury of twelve of his peers.

ANOTHER WIN FOR RYAN BIRSS!

CASE DISMISSED AFTER MOTION TO SUPPRESS. On June 10th, 2022 Ryan Birss appeared in court for a Motion to Suppress in a DUI related matter. Law enforcement was conducting "specialized DUI enforcement" and following vehicles that were leaving a local bar in Redding. His client was initially pulled over for an alleged failure to use a turn signal. The client was adamant that she was not driving irregularly and that law enforcement had no cause to pull her over. After Ryan Birss' team investigated the scene, it was discovered that due to a significant curve in the road in the opposite direction the client was intending to turn, the turn signal would have turned off automatically. Failure to use a turn signal in this location should not have been considered reasonable suspicion for a traffic stop. The Judge agreed, and Mr. Birss' motion was granted and the case was dismissed.

NOT GUILTY VERDICT!

Ryan Birss' client was accused of possession of a stolen trailer and vandalism. For years the client (who lives at a property used as a junkyard) declared that he was innocent of these crimes and the stolen trailer had been dumped outside his home despite the fact law enforcement arrived when he was holding a grinder standing next to the trailer which had recently had part of its identification grinded off.

After three years of moving through the court process and a four day jury trial, the client was found not guilty on both counts. Ryan Birss argued that law enforcement's mistaken assumption that holding a grinder near a recently grinded trailer means the case is open and shut was not enough to convict a person of a crime, and a jury of 12 agreed with him.

Redding woman's charges dropped in elderly assault outside bar 08/13/2021

All charges dismissed against Elizabeth Bailey in Tropics assault case where she faced felony charges as an accessory after the fact.

On August 12, 2021, Bailey appeared in court with her attorney Ryan Birss for her preliminary hearing. After the evidentiary hearing which consisted of the video surveillance of the alleged assault, testimony from a police officer, and testimony from the alleged victim, a Shasta County Judge determined there was insufficient evidence to hold Ms. Bailey to answer for an alleged felony and discharged her from the case. A representative from the Shasta County District Attorney’s office argued for Bailey to be held to answer to lesser charges including misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor elder abuse, but the Judge declined to hold Ms. Bailey to answer for any alleged criminal activity related to the events on June 26, 2021 at The Tropics.

Ms. Bailey and her attorney Ryan Birss look forward to continuing to clear her name as they prepare for her misdemeanor trial set for August 24, 2021. In that case she is charged along with Mr. Carlos Zapata and Mr. Christopher Meagher regarding the highly publicized events of May 4, 2021.
