Towards the end of the school year, several students were encouraged to submit poem entries into the KCLS Poetry Contest, and two Overlake students were honored! Grace F. (’27) won and Reya V. Congratulations to Overlake’s Speech & Debate team! The team of 12 students just returned from NSDA nationals with some impressive hardware! Just getting to National competition is rigorous, with only 2% of students qualifying. Five Overlakers, Dabao Z., Alex C., Avery Z., Alice Z., and Fiona L., made it to the elimination round with Fiona placing 13th in Worlds School Debate section, and Avery advancing to semifinals in Big Questions section and placing in the top 4 winning a $1,250 scholarship. Congratulations also to coaches Robin Monteith and Forrest Williams for leading this championship program!

Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. opens tomorrow night! Our 5th and 6th grade owls have been working hard to prepare this last show of the year. This will also be the last show directed by long time faculty member Sarah Fitzpatrick before she retires!

This morning we treated our outstanding parent and guardian volunteers to a delicious breakfast to honor all the hard work they put in each year. Our volunteers help Overlake be a wonderful place for our students to thrive. Thank you for all your hard work, volunteers!
Middle Schoolers spent time outdoors today in service to various community partners. Here some 6th and 7th graders worked on conservation efforts along the Snoqualmie River with OxBow Farm and Conservation Center. Thursday our Upper Schoolers (minus our Seniors) will provide a day of service around our region.
Checkmate! Congratulations to the Overlake chess team who placed 7th nationwide at the US Chess Middle School nationals! Even though one of their teammates got sick last minute and missed a round, the whole team rallied to take home the trophy.
Eighth grader Nikash V. has also managed to take home two titles and become not only the US Chess National Middle School Champion, but also the US Chess National Middle School Blitz Co-Captain.

They joined us for a furniture build and worked on new construction at our Proctor Place triplex over their spring break as part of our Collegiate Challenge program. The Overlake Weightlifting Club competed in their first official competition on Saturday. Juniors Sunny Z. and Emma B. competed in the Sn**ch and Clean and Jerk events lifting weights from 17kg all the way up to 43kg!
Olympic Weightlifting may be an individual sport, but they train as a team and support each other through training and competing. Coached by Joey Swidler, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Overlake’s students took first place in their respective classes and age groups!

Last week as a part of the POCIS Equity and Inclusion Virtual Speaker Series, our Director of Diversity and Inclusion Mahtab Mahmoodzadeh, hosted a virtual conversation with Dr. Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King.
The Diversity and Inclusion office also hosted a community dinner and conversation following the time with Dr. King full of rich conversation and community building.
