Breaking ground today with Supervisor Dave Pine and other officials on the North County Wellness Center — a game-changer for health care access in North San Mateo County! This $133 million state-of-the-art clinic located in South San Francisco will offer primary care, specialty services, optometry and dental care, adding 10,000 patient visits a year for those most in need. This is a huge win for residents in north San Mateo County who often cannot get doctor’s appointments for several months. I’m proud to have served with Supervisor Pine on the subcommittee that brought this project to life.

Exciting news! The San Mateo County Transportation Authority and Redwood City will receive up to $48M in RM3 toll funds for the $300M “101/84 Interchange Reimagined” project from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
This initiative will enhance the Port of Redwood City and ease traffic at the Highway 101/Woodside Road interchange.
As MTC Commissioners, Gina Papan and I are proud to have prioritized these improvements, which will boost Silicon Valley’s economy and enhance the port’s role in emergency preparedness. Thanks to the port staff for all their hard work.
Starting in 2027, the project includes over 4 miles of new bike/pedestrian paths and improved transit shuttle access, linking Caltrain and the future SF Bay Ferry terminal.
Thank You to MTC CEO Andy Fremmeir and his team as well for all their help in seeing this through for San Mateo County.
Happy Father’s Day to an incredible dad who has dedicated his life to our family. It also amazes me that he coached youth sports for over thirty years. Rain or shine he stepped up as a father and for that I’m eternally grateful.
And to all the other Father’s out there. Congratulations and Happy Father’s Day. 👏👏👏.
Today we remember and honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Happy Mother’s Day to the wonderful women in my life! 💐
Exciting news: The Board of Supervisors has approved a countywide study in unincorporated San Mateo County! We’re set to lower speed limits around schools from 25 mph to 15 and 20 mph. Prioritizing safer journeys to school is key. While our Safe Routes to Schools Initiatives have been instrumental, the most impactful step could be reducing speed limits from 25 mph to 15 mph. Achieving ‘vision zero’ requires a unified effort – pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers must all commit to following the law to ensure community safety. Together, let’s make our streets safer. https://www.smdailyjournal.com/news/local/san-mateo-county-board-of-supervisors-to-study-speed-limits-near-schools/article_5c3403fe-0cde-11ef-ab5d-93ffd04bb557.html

Loneliness is not just a feeling; it affects our physical and mental well-being, impacting our entire community. Through countless conversations, I’ve witnessed its effects firsthand in San Mateo County. Inspired by leaders like the U.S. Surgeon General and Peninsula Family Service, we’re taking action. Partnering with Peninsula Family Service and UCSF, we’re crafting the Loneliness Awareness and Solutions Initiative. Together, we’ll pioneer programs and research to overcome loneliness, with the aim of creating a model for others to follow nationwide. Stay tuned for updates on our journey to make meaningful change.
Happy Easter from our family to yours! 🐰🌷💕

Happy St.Patrick’s Day! Great to be in Redwood City last night.
MTC Commissioners David Canepa and Gina Papan, who represent the County of San Mateo and the cities of San Mateo County, respectively, joined MTC Executive Director Andrew Fremier and agency staff this week to tour the Port of Redwood City as the Port seeks $186 million in additional funding for a $380 million project to upgrade the nearby U.S. 101 interchange with Seaport Blvd. and State Route 84/Woodside Road.

San Mateo County was the first in the nation to declare loneliness a public health crisis after the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution my office authored Tuesday. Loneliness has a profound impact on health and is comparable to smoking a pack of ci******es a day. It leads to poor health outcomes according to the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy such as heart attack, depression and even early death. I’m calling for the state of California to establish a Minister of Loneliness position to help those suffering in silence to restore meaningful connections that were lost during the pandemic.
Today marks a historic triumph! After years of relentless advocacy, Sutter Health has heard our community’s plea to preserve the warm water therapy pool at the Mickelson Center in San Mateo. Against all odds, it’s set to reopen in July. Kudos to the resilient individuals who refused to accept ‘no’ and rallied for this vital resource. The countdown to July begins! Huge thanks to Lindsay Raike, CEO of Warm Water Wellness, and her grassroots effort that my office proudly supported. 🌊
💪As a member of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, I am proactively addressing flooding by dedicating a substantial $15 million towards mitigation efforts in San Mateo County.
The funds are earmarked for the Vista Grande Watershed Project, targeting flooding issues stemming from overflows in San Francisco’s Lake Merced, which borders Daly City.
The challenge? When Lake Merced overflows, it takes just five hours for flooding to hit north San Mateo County. And during heavy rains, the impact can lead to extensive property damage.
The focus isn’t just on immediate fixes. It’s a call to address an aging and historic sewer system, acknowledging the need for serious plumbing adaptations to cope with our changing climate. Let’s build resilience for the future!

We need leaders in the United States Senate who prioritize transportation and housing infrastructure. Congressman will represent us well in the United States Senate.
Thrilled to be part of the ribbon-cutting for the new Radio Shop in Redwood City. This facility ensures flawless communication for the Sheriff's Office, Ambulance, DPW, and other county departments. Today marks the end of the Radio shop's search for a permanent home. This facility is important because it houses specialized workbenches, equipment, and generators for the Radio Team, serving as a crucial training hub for technical skills and knowledge.
I was so honored to be proclaimed the Regional Leadership Champion by the California Alliance for Jobs at a special reception at Westlake Joes’s in Daly City Monday night. When government works with our business community and unions, we have the power to train the next generation of residents seeking construction careers. Investing in job-creating infrastructure is a proven strategy to change lives in our communities. Special thanks to California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, state Sen. Scott Wiener, Assemblymember Diane Papan and San Francisco Assessor Joaquin Torres for speaking on the value of working together to promote job creation and training in the state of California. Thanks also to MTC Executive Director Andrew Fremier, SFO General Manager Ivar Satero and other transportation leaders for advancing a 21st Century vision for the Bay Area and beyond and the investments in infrastructure that will make it happen. Special shout out to John Duggan, Chris Gruwell and Joshua Arce for making it happen.
My very first day on the job as San Mateo County Supervisor in 2017, I had the honor to vote for Don Horsley to lead the Board of Supervisors as president. He was a steady and compassionate leader. May he rest in peace.
