Late Effects of Radiation treated with HBOT

Despite modern radiotherapy (RT) techniques, radiation-induced proctitis (RIP) remains a significant complication of RT for pelvic organ malignancies.

HBOT proved to be an effective and safe treatment for RIP refractory to medical and/or endoscopic treatments. This real-world evidence study adds value to published data on the management of RIP with HBOT.

Lets talk about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Radiation.

Late effects of radiation is a covered condition for all insurances.

A lot of our patients are Late Effects of Radiation patients we are currently seeing a big jump in late effects of radiation cases.

The most common cases we see are going to be:

Head/Neck - Osteo of the jaw, pulled teeth after radiation that just won't heal, soft tissue necrosis, flaps that won't heal.

Pelvic Region - Soft tissue necrosis, cystitis (bladder problems control, bleeding, pain), proctitis (re**al problems control, bleeding, pain)

The great thing is the response rate of healing. 81% to 83% for bone and bladder healing. 50% with soft tissue necrosis/mucous membrane improved with HBOT. With a low relapse rate of 22%.

This is the reason we warn patients about doing HBOT/MBOT at non-medical facilities. This explosion happened in May, and we are just hearing about it. We understand it is better financially to buy or go to a spa where they are advertising HBOT/MBOT at low pressure for 50-75 dollars a treatment. But sadly, this is the risk. JOB SUMMARY

The Hyperbaric Tech 1, under the supervision of a certified hyperbaric technician (CHT), assumes responsibility for the safe and effective operation, control, and maintenance of the compression chamber system and supporting components. Helps prepare the patient for treatment, operates the chamber during treatment, monitors the patients during treatment and delivers care appropriate to the Techs level of training in accordance with standard policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment and materials needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatments. Processes (cleans and properly stores) equipment/supplies used in the hyperbaric environment and/or department.
Operates the compression chamber and supporting components and maintains operating, maintenance, safety logs and other required documentation, as specified in department policy.
Carries out hyperbaric oxygen treatment protocols, as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician.
Monitors patients and hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatments, reports unusual occurrences, and records appropriate entries in the medical record, as required.
Communicates appropriately to other employees and customers based on the situation and the age level of the person.
Performs required preventative and other maintenance under the supervision of a Tech 2 or the Safety Director. Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of equipment and supplies used in the department.
Works with the Safety Director to evaluate equipment and supplies used in the chamber to ensure that they meet department requirements, including all safety requirements.
Helps maintain a safe environment for patients and staff members, checking with supervisors if there is a question about how to safely perform procedures to be used for any job function.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse responses in patients within the department and/or hyperbaric environment.
Assists the Tech 2 or Safety Director in providing staff training on emergency procedures, hyperbaric physiology, decompression tables, equipment operations and safety, and treatment protocols.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

General understanding of Hyperbaric Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.
Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
Additional medical clearance is required before working inside a hyperbaric chamber

Northern Nevada Hyperbarics Inc. is looking for a Temporary full time employee. This temporary work may lead to a permanent job.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in back office duties, including but not limited to: escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly; taking vital signs as per guidelines; maintaining examination rooms stock; documenting all patient communications; filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record; and administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies. Challenges to this position are delivery of patient care complicated by new techniques, paperwork. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety.

The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other health care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone. This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements. This position does provide patient care.
