Sunday 10/8 TMCC’s Basic Wildland Academy trained 9 men and 3 women. Last Saturday (10/18) we did our second TMCC Wildland Firefighter Academy. 11 men, 3 women participated and were put through their paces doing hand crew work in the morning, followed by engine mobile attack, progressive hose lays, mop up work, and fire ing methods with drip torches and fuzees. Every one of them has potential for being a successful job next summer. Fun day.

TMCC will be conducting a Basic Wildland Firefighter (Firefighter Type 2) Academy in October. This is an excellent time to get training, to be ready to apply to federal agencies who hire in November for the 2024 fire season. TMCC's Wildland Fire program is up and running for Spring 2023. We have a Basic Wildland Fire Academy staring immediately, with Field Day on 1/14. Local and state agencies are hiring now, and we need qualified firefighters to fill the critical need for next summer. If you know anyone interested, have them look into the Academy.

Our Wildland Fire Training program got a new (to us) piece of equipment for the program. TMFPD generously donated this 1997 Model 14, Type 3 Brush engine to the Wildfire program for use in our training courses. Full story in the link below.

Sixteen Wildland students learning to share what they know. M-410 Facilitative Instructor Course at TMCC last week. Over the length of the week, each student had to give 4 presentations: a 2-minute self-Intro; a 5-minute presentation; a group teaching presentation; and an individual 15-minute presentation (recorded).
They had to talk about anything but fire. This student, a former sous chef did a lesson in sharpening kitchen knives. It is so fascinating learning a small piece of something new from each student. It’s as much fun for us, Instructors, as it is for our trainees.

One of my favorite classes to teach. We help students overcome their fear of speaking in front of others; how to develop objectives and a lesson outline; and many other topics. It was a long week but always worth it!
