Bwindi Community Hospital, UC-Davis, and local partners collaborate zoonotic surveillance efforts to prevent future epidemics — KF Sub-Saharan Africa has been known as one of the regions with leading infectious disease outbreaks. Most outbreaks have come from these countries, especially Uganda and her neighbors in the Central African regions such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Empowering women such as Patience through educational opportunity in places like Uganda makes a real-world impact on their lives.
Patience says, “I have become a better person and more stable in life. Becoming a person who people can rely on, especially my family, has been the most rewarding, and it has boosted my self-confidence and credibility as an individual.”
“I am so thankful to our donors who through The Kellermann Foundation and the Batwa Development Program have made my dream possible." https://bit.ly/3BBgpXe

Bwindi Community Hospital (B*H) welcomed aboard Dr. Charlotte Aguti Ongom as its new Executive Director in May. Dr. Aguti is a medical doctor with a well-versed background in public health with experience in monitoring and evaluating large health care organizations.
She has worked in clinical practice, management, and research. She most recently served as Deputy Director of Research Outreach and Community Services at Kampala University Teaching Hospital, and Executive Director of Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka, Busheny District, one of the largest private hospitals in Uganda by capacity.
“I have known about B*H for some time,” said Dr. Aguti, “I am exceedingly grateful to be here. Running a non-profit hospital in Uganda is filled with challenges and joys. My initial effort will be to encourage the hospital’s teams with strategic leadership so they can visualize what they need to do to work successfully.” https://bit.ly/473DEF3
Dr. Scott Kellermann publishes "An African Gift: My Life with the Batwa Pygmies"
Dr. Scott's "An African Gift" tells the story of his and wife Carol’s many years of work in Uganda. The book will be published later this summer to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Kellermann Foundation.
"An African Gift" shares how at first the Kellermanns ministered to the Batwa and their Bakiga neighbors in mobile medical clinics, hanging IV drips for critically-ill patients from Ficus trees. Through prayer, respectful and loving engagement, and innovative problem-solving, they began a deep friendship with the Batwa tribe who were rainforest dwellers until they were displaced by gorilla trekking tourism in 1991.

Over thirty years ago the Batwa were forest dwellers depending on what they could hunt and gather for food. Today, Batwa families are successfully cultivating their own crops and growing healthy food for their households thanks to the help of mentoring by a full-time Batwa Development Program (BDP) Agricultural Officer.

Thankful for the dedicated team come rain or shine!
It isn’t often that you get to see someone’s vision become a reality. We count ourselves blessed to be able to do so twice while visiting Uganda with the Kellermann Foundation. We first traveled there in 2002 with “Mama Diane” (Stanton) and team. On that trip, we participated in a medical clinic under a ficus tree led by Dr. Scott and Carol Kellermann. What an amazing adventure!

The Kellermann Foundation’s long-term endeavor to help the Batwa people and their neighboring communities in southwest Uganda highlights that the best solutions come from within the local community.
This includes the Batwa Development Program and the church's adult literacy teaching, One Story Bible training, the Jesus Film, in-home pastoral visits, and much more.

Patricia and Peace - A Story of Redemption
When I think of the people who define Bwindi Community Hospital, I immediately think of Aunt Peace. If you have been to Bwindi, she is someone who you would most certainly remember. As a woman in a position of leadership, she has pointed people to Jesus and has done it in a consistent yet humble way. She may not be a doctor, but I am certain she has saved many live here in Bwindi. https://bit.ly/3wWoBPD
The Kellermann Foundation We provide Batwa community development, healthcare and nursing education in Uganda
The Kellermann Foundation partners with the Batwa Development Program to provide homes for Batwa families in Uganda. The first Batwa homes were banana-leaf huts followed by mud-and-stick homes which required cutting and burning wood. Today, the Batwa are building homes made from inter-locking bricks made on-site that do not require the cutting of trees and are much more durable. Even with newer technology the cost is out of reach for most families. Can you help?

For many families in Uganda, school is a dream that remains out of reach because education is not free.
By supporting a child’s education, you're empowering them to take control of their future and the prospects it brings. The Batwa Development Program is a comprehensive program that helps families through well-resourced educational initiatives.
