"My name is Michelle Phu, and I am in Greenhill School’s AVP filmmaking program. We work all year together producing films. We have had over 50 films at SxSW alone. I am working on an experimental film and need two female actors around 18-25 years old. Contact me if you are interested. I can send you the script if you would like."

A: Seize the Day - I love all the big group numbers in this show, but this one is my favorite out of all of them

V: Santa Fe, the vocals have me in a daydream👏🏽😭

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐓𝐃 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰? 𝐈𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲?

A: Yes

V: No, I was in the dance ensemble last year for American Idiot

MEET THE CAST
Lyn Zhang (She/He) as Crutchie

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲?

L: My favorite song is Once And For All! This is the point in the Newsies Strike when everyone bands together, fed up of the mistreatment, to make a change for themselves. It's such an inspirational piece and is the "make it or break it" moment of the entire Newsies strike.

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐓𝐃 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰? 𝐈𝐟 𝐬𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲?

L: This is my first UTD show!

L: The newsboys fought for fair compensation and worker's rights in 1899. Although this happened more than a century ago, the determination and dedication for justice transcends time. There are
always people that will fight to make things right, no matter the times.

MEET THE CAST
Ethan Saet (He/Him) as Davey
Axel Kennedy (He/Him) as Les

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲?

E: The World Will Know; there's just so much passion involved. Every time we perform this song I feel like I get chills because of the anger we get to portray as newsies.

A: My favorite song from the show is “Once and For All” because of the fast upbeat military-like sound of the song. And the lyrics are pretty inspiring.

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐓𝐃 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰? 𝐈𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲?

E: Yes

A: This is my first show at UTD

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐬?

E: I just want them to enjoy our performance, even if they don't like the show in the first place.

A: I hope people will take away the message of the show. In this day and age and in our current times the terms “union” and “strike” are being more commonly used and especially in the acting and arts communities. I hope that people will see the show and realize that this is no joke and that fighting for rights is not what it seems.
Union’d we Stand!

MEET THE CAST

Dakota Britvich (He/Him) as Jack Kelly
Megan Lemonds (She/Her) as Katherine

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲?

D: Carrying The Banner. The energy throughout the whole song is top notch and you really get to see the personalities of everyone in the cast.

M: “Something To Believe In” is my favorite song because it has cool harmonies and it reminds me of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from The Lion King!

𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐓𝐃 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰? 𝐈𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲?

D: I was last seen on UTD's stage in American Idiot as Theo. Over the summer, I was in Newsies at The Firehouse Theatre as Spot Conlon. (Talk about switching sides...)

M: Maude in “Winsor and Gertie”, “Officer” in “DreamPlay”, Ensemble in “American Idiot”, and Assistant Stage Manager in “First Date”.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐬?

D: If anything, Hope. No matter how small or insignificant the world makes you feel, if you stand together anything is possible.

M: I hope audiences will realize that change can happen no matter how young you are.

Introducing the Cast of NEWSIES!

Director: Christopher Treviño
Music Director: Mark Mullino
Choreographer: Micki Saba

It's time to carry the banner on your stage with Disney's Newsies! Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.
