"This semester at RMS, STEAM students have been piloting Classroom VR headsets, which are kind of like Magic School Bus episodes coming to life," said STEAM teacher Megan Bluma. "They've walked on the Great Wall of China, swam with sharks, traveled to the moon and witnessed tornadoes."

Last week, Richfield Middle School students painted the new traffic garden at Donaldson Park! This hands-on engineering adventure started when 6th-grade students in Ms. Bluma’s STEAM classes learned about engineering design. In partnership with a Richfield traffic engineer and our Safe Routes to School coordinator, students designed a traffic garden within a specific set of guidelines, while learning about scale factors, digital design and paper/pencil drafting. The traffic garden allows children and other new learners to practice navigating streets and learn bike safety without motor vehicles in the area. "One of my students has an uncle stationed in Turkey. Choir students at Richfield Middle School enjoyed a special treat in April, thanks to a grant provided by Chorus America. Aimee K. Bryant, a teaching artist and local performer, spent the whole week working with students in unique and fun ways. “We learned about the history of certain genres of music that have been part of resistance movements, and how we can use music today as a tool for change," explained Choir Teacher Eugene Sandel.
