Mother Mary Lange Catholic School was honored this week with two awards from the Maryland Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC Maryland)! MMLCS won both the Green Schools Award and the People’s Choice Award. Winners were announced and honored at an evening celebration event on September 27 at the LEED Gold® Clifton Mansion in Baltimore.

Now in its second year welcoming students, the Catholic school marked the first to be built in Baltimore by the Archdiocese of Baltimore in more than 60 years. The 2.7-acre site holds a 65,000-square-foot school building, artificial turf field, play areas, parking areas, and a bus loading area. The previously undeveloped site also now features smart stormwater management using the SmartSWM system. The stormwater facility is located underground on-site. Century-Kleinfelder also used pervious pavers for sidewalks to aid in stormwater management. Additional engineering and design services were provided to BGE to power the school.

Congratulations to our project partners Archdiocese of Baltimore, JMT Architecture, Lorax Partnerships LLC, and Whiting-Turner Contracting HQ. Awesome job!

The final deck has been poured, and it looks like a very “nice” bridge! The Harry W. Nice/Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge between Newberg, Maryland, and Dahlgren, Virginia, is a major connection between Maryland and Virginia, handling more than 17,000 vehicles daily. The existing two-lane bridge over the Potomac River is being replaced by a new four-lane bridge built just north of the existing structure. With the final deck poured on the new structure, it is set for completion in early 2023. Century-Kleinfelder provided independent design quality management (IDQM) review services for all landside improvements, geotechnical, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)/structure improvements. These reviews serve an important purpose in making sure that all design elements are compliant with both the contract documents and the design quality control plan (DQCP) for the project.

Congratulations to all teams involved in this project to bring new, wider, and safer transportation to Marylanders and Virginians!
