🏛️ Yesterday, the PermitZIP team went on-site at one of our active projects: 332 34th Street in Newport News, VA, where MEP rough-ins are underway for the adaptive reuse of this historic building. Once a shelter, this building is being transformed into 39 multifamily apartment units.

Very cool to see our designs come to life during the rough-in phase! 🏙️✨

🚧 Project Highlight: Stay and Play Child Care Center, Quinton, VA 🚧

We're excited to share details about a recent ground-up project we designed: Stay and Play Child Care in Quinton, Virginia. This project features a new MEP system and a great team.

🔧 Mechanical:
Four roof-mounted package units and an Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV).

⚡ Electrical:
Installation of a new 400 Amp 3-phase electrical service.

🚿 Plumbing:
A new 1.5" domestic water service equipped with a backflow preventer (RPZ), a hot water recirculation line, and a 4" sanitary line.

🔥 Gas:
A new gas service will be provided to the rooftop units, tankless water heaters, and a gas range in the kitchen.

We’re thrilled to share that Parlay Bar and Lounge at Graybo's Sports Cards in Richmond, VA, is officially open! 🎉 We had the pleasure of handling the electrical and plumbing design for this exciting new spot. Now with construction complete, it’s great to see the doors open!

We collaborated with the owners to strategically reduce the project scope, allowing the existing HVAC system to remain. It's been a great experience watching this project come to life!

"Pay-when-paid" clauses result in economic losses for architectural and engineering firms. The American Institute of Architects has recently adjusted its standard contract language, seemingly in response to legislation. However, these legislative changes solve virtually nothing. The real problem is rooted in economic losses (time value of money), which are a direct result of being expected to offer zero percent, zero payment, and unsecured loans with little to no credit checks for AE services rendered.

We were all supposed to take ECON in college. Right?

This article reviews the economic losses associated with "pay-when-paid" clauses and proposes potential solutions. The AIA's recent adjustments appear to be driven by legislative changes, and we have invited AIA National's representatives to our podcast to explore the origins and implications of these ideas further.

We aim to develop innovative, win-win solutions that improve cash flow and prevent the economic losses caused by this practice.
