MERC was established in 1991 as a partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University's school of Education and Richmond area public school systems. The Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) is leading a project focused on enhancing and assessing the fidelity of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for student mental health support in PK-12 schools in the metropolitan Richmond region.
We are recruiting for an advisory council that will meet seven times over Zoom during the 2024-2025 school year for approximately 90 minutes each meeting. There will be as many as 12 council members, each receiving a $1,000 stipend for their time. If you are interested, please complete the linked form. All applications are due Friday, May 31st. Our Story
MERC was established in 1991 as a partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University's school of Education and Richmond area public school systems. The founding members created MERC to provide research-based information to help resolve education problems identified by practicing professional educations. MERC currently provides services to over 12,000 teachers in seven school divisions.
MERC provides tangible material support to enhance the practice of educational leadership and the improvement of teaching and learning in metropolitan educational settings. MERC's research and development agenda is built around 5 goals:
1) to improve educational decision-making through joint development and dissemination of practice-driven research.
2) to anticipate significant, reasonable educational issues and needs.
3) to identify proven strategies for improving instruction, leadership, policy and planning.
4) to enhance the effective dissemination of research to practitioners.
5) to provide research-oriented professional development opportunities for school practitioners.
In addition, MERC conducts program evaluations for school systems, universities, and other agencies.
