Happy 150th birthday to us!! Here’s just a sneak peak of some photos from Roots & Wings: the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia! We had a beautiful day of worship, inspiration, special guests, and history at CrossRoads. For the missional women who shaped us and the pioneering women to come, we give thanks.

Camp Council Meeting at CrossRoads this weekend was a witness to the movement of God in these times of transition. Sara as our outgoing Operations & Pastoral Director planned a wonderful meeting alongside of Kenny Daniel our incoming leader at CrossRoads. They led together in the spirit of unity and love. (2 council members are absent).

We’re so proud of the work of CrossRoads Camp and the lives that are shaped there each summer at camp, and year-round through retreat and conference experiences! Join us in praying for these young leaders!

Summer Missionary to CrossRoads, 23-year old, Leslie Chavez Garcia said farewell yesterday at RIC. Having spent the summer serving as Camp Missionary she then went to North Carolina to spend some days with friends. One other favorite pastimes while here was kyacking with Lucianne Warren’s family. Her time concluded in my home where she packed snack packs for children to distribute in needy neighborhoods. We took a tour of underserved neighborhoods where many spoke Spanish. Leslie took the lead in sharing with these families and she blessed the children by encouraging them with a snack and game pack. Littycia Clay-Crawley, WMUV Missions Strategist was on it in helping Leslie pack and prepare for her trip back to Peru!

Churches, Remember that your HOPE Team Leaders and their teams are available to come to your churches and associational meetings to raise awareness and to share about some missional responses to issues such as Mental Health, Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence and Family Peace, and on Dementia, Alzheimer’s and their Caregivers! A great planning session tonight!

Ministry at CrossRoads Camp & Conference Center is in full swing!

A wonderful day with the Dover Baptist Associations WMU Missions Training. Emile Simpson coordinates these periodically. Beth Ward is the associational WMU Director. Speakers were my friend Sharon Pompelli who is with the IMB caring for retired missionaries and their families as well as connecting with WMU and I was the other speaker! 💕 Great questions were raised today! One sisters church has left the SBC and she wanted to be sure that her church would get their traditional offering envelopes. I reminded the audience that they only but need to let the WMUV office know how many of each of the three needs to be sent to their churches if in fact the church allows it after having left the SBC.

Grace Chinese Baptist Church is growing rapidly with internationals. The sanctuary is already not big enough! What a wonderful problem to have! Winnie Wang and her husband Carter are key leaders at the church. Winnie is also on the board of trustees for WMUV!

I had the privilege last week to see God a work as Sara and Emma are training our summer camp counselors!❤️🥰 Leslie from Peru is our summer camp missionary and is among this group!

When I make my annual presentation each year to the executive board of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, I am proud to share that the WMU of Virginia staff and volunteers stay connected to the local churches of the BGAV…. Hey, Roanoke Area Churches!

We're helping sponsor a Brazilian Soccer Camp with semi-pro players in Roanoke this July 9-12. These players have missional hearts, so kids in grades K-12 can learn about the gospel and Brazilian culture in addition to learning soccer skills. We want this camp to be accessible to anyone interested, so there's an option to waive the event cost at registration.

A wonderful worship experience today for Women’s Day at the New Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg as Women’s Day Speaker. Theme: The Woman God Sees. The Women’s Day Choir was amazing!

Baptist Nursing Fellowship Leader for WMU of Virgina and Retired Army Lt Commander, Karen Stokes receives recognition on Women’s Day at the New Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg for her dedication to ministry. She is the Community Nursing leader. Karen works in WMUV with Sisters Who Care and alongside of Marilyn Graves with our Baptist Nursing Fellowship.

Our board meeting this weekend was held during our Volunteer Camp Weekend. Our President, Lucianne Warren suggested that board members remain after our meeting to serve alongside of volunteers that are getting the facility ready for summer camp. ❤️ this!

David Washburn, BGAV Treasurer makes a dynamic presentation to the WMUV Board of Trustees this weekend on organizational finances. Thank you David for sharing such knowledge with our board members as we navigate a changing denominational landscape.
