SPRING PREFAB UPDATES!
Remember the Dogtrot Mod being built in the northeast that the client named "the Little Lab"? This prefab house, another *modified* Dogtrot Mod from our Green Cabin Kits line of modern prefab homes, was purposely built backward- the smaller guest unit was constructed years ago while the client continued to live in their beautiful, historical, but not-energy-efficient farmhouse in the northeast.

Only once it was time to downsize from the farmhouse and move to their soon-to-be-finished prefab home did they plan to construct the main unit, and for this, they decided on using H**pBLOCK and hempwool insulation. Thus the client is calling her main unit of her Dogtrot Mod... the DogTrot H**phouse. 💛

I always love it when this memory pops up. There had been a blizzard, and there I was with little kids, by myself, in the middle of nowhere, while Christoph was in DC for days.

"It's ok," I assured myself, "we have plenty of firewood, months of food... all we need to do is relax and not have an emergency."

First, I heard an odd sound in the snow's silence. And then... across acres of white... this tractor appeared, chugging away, plowing out our drive as I cried joy, secret relief, and started baking our neighbor cookies.

Such a fun city weekend filled with art, salvage yards, great friends and food! This old mantel (1st & last photos) we found at , to restore. We will soon (hopefully?) end the 1915 restoration, at least Phase 1. And as always as spring nears, I have prefab house updates!

When is focusing on the other equines, these are the faces we make.

Woke to the cook stove humming, hot coffee, and breakfast underway, not bad! Love telecommuting. 💛

As someone who hunt(ed, not now because of ), supports hunting and whose family have been hunters for generations it REALLY infuriates me to see these "hunters" trespassing purposefully, endangering landowners and hunting from the road.

THIS young "lady" I caught literally standing IN the road pointing into land she does not have permission to hunt in the process of taking a shot when we slammed on the brakes and I said, "Smile for the game warden!" In this photo she had hopped back into the truck while the adult with her argued with me that it was okay to hunt on the road, from the road to the ditch hahaha. Talk about teaching the next generation ethics. SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING IS WRONG, they all do. Bet you a farm she'll be at church tomorrow.

You'd be surprised what my neglected, half hazardly sown, seldomly watered "garden" produces in greens over the year... A few pics from the week.

HAY there! It's always a good feeling when you finally get the hay you need, and the firewood stacked, and the fence lines mowed and you're all set up for winter. What's hay going for in your neck of the woods? Do you think the winter will be harsh or mild? We don't play with guessing and make sure we're stocked. Happy weekend!

Yep, it's "that" movie... but with a twist!

Good morning!
On this stormy weekend, we are cozy. HE likes sweet, I prefer savory, so the breakfast table included local honey and jam for him, and homemade chicken salad from the country store for me.

We continue to reinforce good manners in the teenage puppy- no mastiffs at the table! Sit pretty and politely please, GOOD BOY!

This is a reminder we have a month of summer left, y'all. At the off-grid prefab, we are mowing fence lines, pulling w**ds, hauling hay and there, it's just too hot to post. 😂 Cool weather arrives and with it, farm photos return. 💛

Watching the week's schedule go sideways, deciding I'm ok with that! Sometimes well-laid plans change; evaluate, then, like she's about to do, gather yourself, and commit to a full on body-slam. 😂 Enjoy!

Spring has sprung, and with it, prefab house news. I have updates on current projects, and some new news. Hoping to write that post this weekend. In the meantime, happy spring!!!

We're home!
It was a summer spent in unplanned endeavors I will recount, later. One was we unexpectedly, without ever coveting or having interest in, doubled the size of our farm via the property next door to include the beautiful scene you see in photos 4-5. It's a tale involving agricultural zoning, CUPs, VDOT, and Amish bribes. More, later.

After days of clouds, the sun will emerge this weekend, can't wait!

After work activities this time of year are hard, sweaty, but also fun. This week? A lot of w**ding, mowing, hay, cherries, drying grape leaves and daylilies, and popping blueberries in our mouths.
