As a woman who owns a small business, I will continue to support those who support women’s reproductive freedom. When women do not have control over their reproductive choices, their ability to participate in the workforce fully is severely compromised. Supporting women’s autonomy empowers individuals and fosters healthier, more inclusive workplaces and a stronger economy.

There are different paths of yoga you can take.
However, no matter the path choice, at its root the practice of yoga is intended to liberate you from conditioned misconceptions you have of yourself; and to the realization you are more than the thoughts you identify yourself with.
Yoga does not ask you to be someone else.
Nor is it intended to shame or judge.
It’s not even about ‘good’ or ‘bad’.
The practice encourages a dedication to self-study, a pathway to self-knowledge.
Ask yourself:
Does my practice include a philosophical component that encourages self-study?
The mind transformation that occurs results in the ability to discern which habits or patterns to let go of.
And develop new ones that inspire you to lead a more intentional and thoughtful life.
Ask yourself:
Do I find myself moving through my day with less reaction and impulsiveness? Do I own my actions and find myself living with more intention and thoughtfulness?
Yoga is a gradual process, not a quick fix.
All of these practices must be cultivated for a long time, without interruption, and with care.
At LKPY we understand that everyone has their own personal reason to begin a yoga practice - physical, mental, spiritual benefits. We embrace all of these reasons. We also believe it is important to honor the traditions and philosophy of this ancient practice by never losing sight of what the original intentions were. We use the physical practice of yoga (asana) as a tool for transformation - an opportunity to experience the powerful benefits of a yoga practice that goes beyond the pose. You might come for a stronger, more flexible body, but you will leave with a stronger, more flexible mind too - if you’re open and willing!
There is a difference between relaxing and being calm.
Power yoga is the practice of calmly moving through uncomfortable situations.
Life is hard. Working on yourself is hard work too, right? Growth doesn’t happen when things are easy. It happens when you are challenged.
Power yoga challenges you to step out of your comfort zone - physically and mentally. To do the hard work on your mat to help you with the hard work off your mat. To challenge the status quo through self -reflection in an effort to be your best self.
A challenging practice on your mat DOES NOT mean being violent and beating up your body.
Learning to challenge yourself using compassion and grace on your mat helps you to face challenges off your mat with the same compassion and grace.

Oh, the dreaded chair pose…🤣🤣🤣🙏

The Sanskrit word Asana is translated to mean ‘seat’. The term is now commonly used to refer to the physical pose or posture in yoga.
In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a yogic text that dates back at least a couple of thousand years, he states that one’s ‘seat’ should be ‘steady and comfortable’. The ability to sit for long periods of time in a meditative state is one of Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga - and a path to enlightenment.
Everything you do on your mat, should help you with everything you do off your mat. This is the main premise of a power yoga practice. Instead of ‘doing’ poses to achieve certain physical goals, the pose is used as a tool for self-awareness. This is done by shifting the mindset from ‘doing’ poses to using the pose for exploration and personal inquiry.
Do you ever have thoughts during your practice of ‘am I doing this the right way?’ Or ‘I will never be able to do this’ ? Or questioning whether you’re are doing a pose ‘right’?
Throughout the course of ‘I AM: Inquiry, Asana, Meditation’ you will be presented with information and suggestions on how to begin to apply philosophic yoga practices during your mat practice. You will be introduced to a new principle each month that includes a mini lecture, themed yoga practices, and a guided meditation.
Why is the breath so important in yoga?
The use of breath as the foundation for your yoga practice is what differentiates an asana practice from other more traditional forms of exercise.
When you focus on the breath during your practice, your mind will become quiet and a sense of calm awareness will begin to arise. Random thoughts are less likely to occur, and from that you are in a sense giving yourself a ‘mental break’. Any emotional or physical blockages that exist begin to open, allowing the prana (energy) to begin to flow more freely through your body. In turn, ‘breath awareness’ can lead to greater insight into the more subtler aspects of your physical practice. With a deeper understanding of your physical responses to asanas, you can challenge yourself in a healthier way. Your mindset will become more process focused, less goal-oriented, and your physical practice will begin to fall into place naturally.
During power vinyasa practice we specifically use Ujjayi breathing.
How to practice Ujjayi Breath:
-Take a deep breath in through your nose, then begin your exhale by whispering ‘hhhaaaa’ with your mouth opened; imagine you are trying to fog up a window. Do this a few times. Notice how the base of your throat constricts and how it feels. Notice the sound it makes.
-Next, halfway through your exhale gently place your lips together and continue to now let your exhale exit through your nostrils. Practice this a few times.
-The next step is to now add the inhale. Use the same technique of constricting the base of your throat as you did to exhale, but now reverse the action to inhale, creating the same ‘whispering’ sound.
-The main idea is to create a rhythm with your breath, to even out the inhales and exhales, while continuing to breath in and out through your nose. As you practice this technique, you might want to count the lengths of each inhale/exhale to help find your pace and rhythm. (inhale 3 counts, exhale 3 counts)
