Health information exchange (HIE) allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to access and securely share a patient’s vital medical information electronically, which improves the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care. The electronic exchange of medical information is important because all that data is standardized, transferred, and then seamlessly integrated into the recipient's electronic health record (EHR).
