BREAKING: Coach Rusty Miller named Robstown Baseball Head Coach

Tonight, the Robstown ISD School Board approved Coach Rusty Miller, formerly Banquete Baseball Head Coach, as the new Robstown Baseball Head Coach for next season. Coach Miller will also serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for Robstown ISD.

Coach Miller brings over 10 years of head coaching experience at Banquete High School, with multiple playoff appearances, including a State Semi-Final appearance in 2016. In addition, Coach Miller has helped Banquete make playoff appearance every year during his Banquete Head Coach tenure. There is no question that his experience will bring a new perspective and additional expertise to our beloved baseball team.

Of course, Coach Miller’s hiring was not without some controversy. 3 News reported three weeks ago of his administrative suspension for unknown reasons while at Banquete ISD. It is our hope that the issue was successfully resolved amicably, whatever it was.

We had heard a variety of rumors in the run up to Coach Miller’s hiring, but our policy is not to report rumors, only facts. Our fans deserve the facts, and that remains our policy today.

We want to extend our warm welcome to Coach Miller to the Robstown Baseball program.

Mr. Rene Vasquez of Magic 104.9FM has now been released from the hospital. He is now resting back at his home in Robstown. With his permission on releasing medical information on the issue he is facing. His kidney levels are at (8.9) and he is requesting continued prayers from you the fans.

The Centennial year for the Robstown Cotton Pickers had many accomplishments, challenges and triumphs. It showed us that we have much to be thankful for. We have much to celebrate and much to contemplate. This year’s accomplishments for Robstown included the Robstown Marching Band competing at State, the football team appearing in the playoffs, Coach Vasquez signing off as head coach of the baseball team before routing state-ranked Tuloso-Midway in the final District game of the season. We have much to appreciate this year. While the Centennial year did not bring everything we had hoped, it did bring fans and alums together. It also gave us hope for more improvements and more positive change for the future of our Robstown students as the Cotton Picker tradition continues.

We are proud of our successful alums, we are proud of our fans, and we are proud that our Robstown Cotton Pickers continue to strive to reach their goals and potential. We hope our alums and fans continue to inspire Robstown students forever and always because we know that we represent a unique community, a unique brand, and a unique network unlike any other.

Of course, our operation has faced significant financial difficulties during a climate of rising inflation, increasing costs and expenses. However, we have tentatively secured some sponsorships for next year to help keep this operation going. We will work to finalize agreements in the coming months. As a result, we are pleased to announce that we will return next season for Baseball. In the meantime, we will begin scaling down our online presence in the next few weeks, with some items being removed permanently, such as our Centennial merchandise.

It has been an honor to have completed another year of coverage of the Robstown Cotton Pickers. We bid all our friends and supporters goodbye (for now) as we prepare for the next season. We will, however, come out of hibernation if there is any breaking news regarding baseball. Stay tuned for bonus coverage!
